axfr, your SAT’s are great, but they are far from the only factor in admissions, as has been written thousands of times on these boards

yeah i know. your right.
But there’s something really obsessive about the SAT… Something that makes kids like us stay up whole night on CC comparing their scores with others loool
btw, im also from india (half-indian, from my mother). Im writing an essay on my identity (franco-indian) and the feelings I experience when i go back to India. Dyou think its a good topic?
Where are u applying to? WHere in India are u from?

Hmm, could be good. I’m from Delhi. How about you?

my mother’s from Bombay (originally from Punjab), my dad is french
so where are you applying to?

Im kind of ****ed because in France, they don’t really have any awards and stuff like that. There aren’t any National Olympiads and things… And in school, there are hardly any clubs… I just hope the adcom will understand my situation…Though I guess I look ok compared to other french applicants

Axfr - come on… There is no olympiads in France?
I am sorry, but living in Poland I know two reeeaaally big science competitions, and at least one math competition that takes place in France. Not to mention germany… You can always cross the river and go to school in germany ;), they have many competitions.

Well there is one big math contest in which i was 136th out of 100,000+
but that’s it. And i don’t have official proof

You talk about kangaroo, or something different?
And what about:

yeah kangouroo
and I came 2nd for a math contest with my class
never heard of IYpt OR cOMP OF young sci

It is amazing. France does not take a part in IBO. Ok.

You have never heard, but it mean You are not interested, that’s all…
I guess You were not really concerned about competitions. And, personally, that’s ok competitions have no value itself. The only valuable thing is that univs like them…
But there are several other ways of showing mental prowess.
As You know probably.

such as??? what other ways can I use to show my “mental proweess”

I did University courses when I was 14, and sent to university projects of one invention, and two research works, several science conceptions and one compression algorithm. Such a sample, a bit of everything.

So did you mention in your application that there werent any clubs in your school?

i’ve got an explanatory paper attached to my application explaining things about the french system (i.e. no time for much coz ive got school every day until 5 oR 6)

akashbansal - You ask me ironically, or her neutrally?
