SAT May 2012 Official Discussion

@alvin i thought it was mean too… i did 15 times 17 to get 255 then subtracted 20 and divided by 17… you get 13.8 so that means there can be 13 or under 17 year olds. thats my math for the mean but if it was median i am screwed lol.

It wouldn’t be highly debated though because the other two choices gave exactly 17

@noble6

Woah woah woah, I’m pretty sure it was 10/3 which was 3 1/3, or am I on the wrong question?

@bear111

It was a graph with a line going through (-2, 2) and (-3, 5) or something like that, and it was asking for the y-intercept of the graph

@Congster basically if it was mean te answer is I&II and if median it’s all 3… I thought it was mean though

yeah president that was the question.

@presidentsaad
i put 10/3 too but i think its wrong. it asked for how many inches/year, not the other way around

The problem with 200 years in 60 inches is 3/10… Multiply 200 years by .3 inches and it gives you 60 inches so it’s 3/10

It was 3/10.

No, the other choice COULD give a mean of 17. It could be 17.1, 17.2, 17.3 etc
I. 3
3 people are 17 years old, 1 is set to be 20 (greatest age) the other 10 you can make their age whatever you want.
II same case
III has to yield mean of 17.2

Therefore, it is more than likely that they asked for median instead of mean. On top of that, I remember it said median along with many other people.

Anyone remember the question in the last writing section about snow tires? Was the answer “you need to use snow tires…” (E)?

omg i thought i got that one wrong
@ alvin yeah i got I & II too… but if they said its median idk… i was positive it was mean but now you guys are making me second guess…

@presidentsaad
I think the y-intercept was 5/3

For graph with y-int (b-value) it was 5/3

@noble
yea thats what i put

@lpbugrdmpted youre missing a detail… it said there are 15 students…

Same Congster, and noble that’s the right answer…

for the writing section about the fireflies, was “located on” correct? i think i chose no error for that

@bear111

Crap. Well, thats -4 for me so far haha

but any confirmation on which math was experimental?
