I have not followed this case closely, but originally wondered if someone had accidentally killed her and was trying to cover it up. And if the ransom demands were fake or from people who had not taken Nancy but saw an oppty to makes some case.
Bit then the ring video came out. And it was just odd to me - trying to cover it with landscape material??
I am still unclear if any directions were sent to the family about a “drop” and if any money was actually paid.
It seems like a kidnapper would not want to hang on to the person they snatched - especially an elderly/fragile person - for so long, right?
Interesting. (But I’d be ok if that kind of info were withheld from the press while the case is ongoing. IF she is still alive, no need to give the criminals extra hints on tracking methods.)
On the other hand, publicizing this sniffer may be a way to get the suspects to release her in order to avoid getting caught while holding her if and when the sniffer finds her pacemaker.
I think something went wrong immediately and she died. I think the ransom demands are either fake or done by others, and the original group is long gone. Maybe Mexico.
CNN is reporting that the sheriffs office has cleared all Guthrie family members and spouses. And the anchors are shaming all the true crime enthusiasts who’ve been speculating online.
(Meanwhile they have no leads and continue to beg the public for help.)
One bit that stuck out was that there is no FBI field operation so it doesn’t appear that they are treating this as a kidnapping.
Pundits saying that the case doesn’t have the hallmarks of a kidnap-for-ransom, so now they will be looking at other motives, like something grievance-based.
They will now search other databases, but it will take time. I heard a discussion on NBC News Daily, where someone mentioned the suspect had a flashlight in his mouth at one point. She thought there might be some DNA around the property from that, like when he bent over to pull some plants.
The family just announced that they are offering a reward of up to $1 million. Savannah looked like she hasn’t slept & has lost weight. It’s so heartbreaking. They also made a donation of $500,000 to the Center for Missing and Exploited Children. I really hope that they have resolution soon.
She seems to accept that Nancy, sadly but not surprisingly, is no longer alive.
Emphasis mine.
But we need to know where she is. We need her to come home. For that reason we are offering a family reward of up to $1 million for any information that leads us to her recovery
Upsetting to me that the family didn’t step up earlier. Did anyone really believe that any meaningful information would be proffered for a measly, miserly $50,000 when that person would be placing himself/herself and his or her family members in jeopardy ?
With a net worth of $40 million, the daughter could have, and should have, been more forthcoming. Of course, subject to proof of life.
At this point–and long before this point-this is an exercise in how to waste public resources.
I’m sure they are being told what to do by LE/FBI. I can’t imagine someone knowing her whereabouts and holding onto information based on the reward amount (because you need to be first). Now with the increase, they will get a lot more false leads, which can waste time.
We just have to agree to disagree on this matter. Imagine if the alleged kidnapping was cartel related–do you think anyone with an ounce of common sense would offer information for $50,000 or a $100,000 ? What is the price for endangering oneself & one’s family ?
Assuming facts not in evidence, but $1M won’t do you much good when you’re dead. I guess the family you leave behind will be provided for, but go you think anyone with an ounce of common sense would willingly put themselves in front of the cartel during squad.
I agree that you’re wrong. Or living in a fantasy land full of fairies and unicorns
