We own apartments. They’re less than 2 years old and in perfect condition. Recently a tenant emailed and texted to tell me the heat wasn’t working. I called the builder who built them for us and he told me he could drop by in 15 minutes, or the following morning.
I called the tenant and gave her the two options. She opted for him to come over immediately.
He went over and quickly fixed the problem, which was that she hadn’t been periodically cleaning the filter, as all our tenants are advised to do.
When it was done she complained to the builder and me both about our “unprofessional” behavior.
Her complaint: we should have given her 24 hours notice before coming to her apartment.
Bottom line, she complained of having no heat, it was her own damn fault, we made an immediate appointment, fixed it, and she was unhappy that we addressed her concern so promptly.
I think we’d both be happier if she found somewhere else live.

She also complained that we are neglecting our maintenance responsibilities. When asked for specifics she only said we should do periodic checks on the appliances. Hearing this, the builder asked if she’d had any issues with her appliances. Of course she hadn’t.
She’s been looking for a new place to live. I’ve told her that we’d allow her to break her lease with no penalty whatsoever.
I received a call from a prospective landlord and gave an excellent reference, explaining she always paid her rent on time, never bothered the neighbors, and other positive feedback.
But when the other potential landlord asked if I thought she’d be happy in a building built in 1922, I had to be honest.
I’d love to be rid of her, but expect she won’t be happy anywhere, especially in an older building with single pane windows, creaky floors, etc.
So I’m stuck with her for the time being.
I wonder if my houseguests will be able to visit, given the 5-8 inches of snow currently in the forecast. At least the house is clean! And it would be terrible to have to eat that entire cheesecake on our own.

Most underwhelming Super Bowl ever. Neither team brought their A game, terrible halftime show, and not a single clever or funny commercial. And our friend’s food spread was just cold pizza and cupcakes. I want my day back.
