I’m glad my daughter is excited about moving to Philadelphia, but wow, are we different. I have zero desire to live in a big city. It seems exhausting. I will be happy to drive home to Maine tomorrow. I’m leaving at 4 am to get through New York before rush hour. I will take a break at a diner in Connecticut to avoid rush hour in Hartford and Boston.

Back from Philadelphia. 904 tough miles driven in 2 1/2 days. My car was so packed with stuff I literally couldn’t see out of any of the rear view mirrors! DD was following me. Lane switching was an adventure, ha. Ironically, I didn’t get honked at once on the way down, but on the way back (with an empty car), I got honked at because I didn’t see a car in the blind spot. Oops.
Today is tough because I’m missing my daughter and my mom, who would have turned 86 today. DH is being very kind and supportive. Rum and Coke is helping.

I am tired and I am grumpy.
I am especially tired of grumpy old people that gossip too much and then deny gossiping. The grumpy old people that gossip are spreading stories “out of concern for others” and are surprised when they get called out.
I just had a vacation and I am ready for a permanent one. Maybe one that pays and gets me through the next 7 years quickly so I can retire.

FB groups and Nextdoor are all a twitter - the neighborhood coffee shop was a “club” after hours. Our little city shut them down for operating without a cabaret license & no food permits. Some interesting equipment, not the espresso machine, was removed from what I’m told.
Consenting adults - fine, but not in the room that moms and little ones are invited to play in during the day. 
I’m surprised at the number of defenders.
Definitely not on my bingo card. I guess I should pay more attention to the find it/fix it app, haha.

You can have a relationship with relatives that is casual and minimalist and not based on gift giving. That’s fine. But when they forget you on your birthday and forget to invite you to significant family birthday parties, that’s just cold. You say you don’t care, but I know you do.

Spent the weekend at my HS Class reunion and had a great time. I talked with a lot of people and NOT ONE said or even hinted at anything political/politics related (and I know there are a lot of differing views). I’m really pleased about that and proud of us for not “going there”.

The lake community I live in is made up of poverty level trailers on one side with high crime to middle/working class households with a couple very nice homes thrown in on the other side. A developer bought over 200 acres of wetlands that connects both sides and cut down much of it with plans to put warehouses on it all done secretly with the city. I’ve never seen anything unite both sides of the lake community so quickly and efficiently. Over 80 people (including my H) attended the city board meeting and spoke out. WE WON! THEY LOST THE PERMITS TO BUILD!!! Now I hope the land use will be more in tune with the environment going forward.

It’s happening AGAIN.
Kid worked really hard to get a job with a specific company, even though kid would have to go into the office 3 days a week. Told could go in at any time and go home at any time, as long as they showed up.
NOW, FT back to office starting in early 2025.
I know every company has a right to make these decisions, but it feels like bait and switch for new employees.

I have to share some good news occasionally, instead of just complaining all the time! SSA came through for my son! He was due to get increased benefits now that my husband is collecting retirement benefits. The approval process took over 8 months, but I just received notice that DS will get 62% more each month! I’ll be able to save all of the increase for him. It gives our whole family a lot of peace of mind knowing he has a nest egg.

Thanks to whoever packed the parts for our new toilet and left out several critical items, I now have to get the plumber back to re-do the installation. It was >$300 for the first visit and will be about $200 for the next. The generic parts he substituted will invalidate the warranty so I’m waiting on replacement parts. Meanwhile, that toilet cannot be used.

Say “why would we do this” when they want to put a heart monitor for 30 days on a 91 year old.
Say “where is the urology consult” when they try to discharge her. Call the urology department. I am 650 miles away and I did that.
Say " what’s her wbc" when the say they’ll send her home today because one more day of IV antibiotics is as good as taking two amoxicillin

My very introverted high school kid stepped outside her comfort zone today and got into a totally nerdy conversation w/another kid in her class about a topic, she learned, they both love. Pretty sure the acquaintance has now moved to friend status. They had a totally in depth down-the-rabbit-hole conversation. I am totally thrilled about this.

A PSA: please, please, please wear life vests when snorkeling if you are not a good swimmer or any time when you are on a recreational boat. So many tragedies could have been prevented! These vests are not making you look dorky. They SAVE LIVES!!!
