Bleep. Schizophrenia is such a horrible disease. The son of a friend I work with in NAMI was diagnosed in his late teens and just ended his life at the age of 38. The organization that runs my son’s housing also ran his. It’s devastating beyond belief. My kids know the woman, because she trained them to be speakers. I’ve told my daughter but I won’t mention it to my ill son.

We just got (after living in our house for 18 years) the asbestos from our pipes removed. It was all in the very creepy basement. Nobody goes down there except me when I drain the boiler or the termite inspection guy once/year. Everything is stored in our attic. Thus, I wasn’t that worried about it, except we wanted it gone for when we sell.
The cost to remove? $0.00. H may have gotten paid jack (sxxx) during his his 32 years of teaching, but he did make some great contacts. Very thankful to his favorite student and his Dad taking care of it for us. (He’s a local contractor and pretty much the only one around here that does such work) And also his workers who did the actual labor. They rocked!

Ok…finally Budget Rent a Car did it right (we had strike three with them). We picked up a rental car today…agreement said Jetta or equivalent. We got a brand new 2025 Toyota Camry Hybrid. It’s a really nice car!

One of the funniest comedians I have had the pleasure to see perform (and get to know a bit) has passed away. He isn’t a household name to most, but he was known in certain circles. Heaven gained a good one today.
And an acquaintance from high school passed away, as well. He is tangentially well known, but his death has not yet been made public. I haven’t seen him in person in 45 years, so my memories are of the young man I got to know in high school. He had a complicated but very interesting life after that. May he rest in peace.
Cancer s%*ks. At least in both cases, family and friends had the opportunity to say goodbye. But the older I get, the more people I know who are no longer on this earth. It’s really hitting me today.

I wish I could tell you I hate lilies. I’m assuming they are your favorite since every time you give me flowers they are same.In addition to the smell of some of them and the pollen makes a mess so I’m constantly having to catch them as they open to clip off the stamens. I also hate yellow flowers. Plus you knew I was going out of town so why give me a huge bouquet two days before I leave.

My neighbor just told me some stories about the things middle school boys are saying to her daughters & other girls. Unacceptable comments that need to be stopped. The administration is saying that boys mature more slowly than girls… that boys will be boys. They aren’t handling the situations. Boys will be what they are taught to be. If you choose not to help them learn to treat females with respect, they will continue to say horrible things to women. What is wrong with people??

We said that one rental property in Naples was one more than made sense at 83. We shouted that a second rental property was even less sensible.
I want to be sympathetic, and am glad nobody in your properties are hurt – but NO, you could have/should have thought that nobody wants to go to Florida during hurricanes. That your insurance is astronomically high for a REASON. That you won’t be able to just pop down and check on things. Exactly why we said don’t do this. Exactly why your son said we will refuse to inherit them. You took on a mortgage for this one! smh. smh.

I love you, my friend and will do just about anything for you. We’ve been friends for almost all our lives. But I just cannot take your H’s attitude - I get that he really prefers to be home and on his own, but when he does come on a group vacation, to sit there sulking and insist that everything happen on his own schedule is just really bad. It put a damper on the vacation for the others that wanted to enjoy the vacation - don’t know if I’d do another vacation with him again.

Ouch. Reading some of your comments, I am shocked that you work in higher education. I’m talking about multiple commenters (not this forum). It sure sounds like you have a lot of disdain for the students who are the reason you are employed.

Seriously. You are on vacation, not even your home. Yet you decide to stay on the west coast of Florida beachside during this hurricane. Even with mandatory evacuation orders. This is all a game to you with no thought for your children or families. I’m so angry!!! Prayers everything turns out OK.
