Say it here cause you can't say it directly- the get it off your chest thread (Part 1)

Do people no longer use a knife when they eat? Why else would a plastic cutlery ‘set’ include 180 forks, 120 spoons and only 60 knives? Is it expected that one eats the steak/sausage/chicken breast by stabbing it onto the fork and simply gnawing away - like a meat popsicle? Does one then drag the bread across the butter stick? And what exactly is everyone supposed to be eating with those small tea spoons? Is it expected that high tea will be served in the styrofoam cups and everyone uses a spoon to stir? The same people that don’t need a knife to eat?

Three extra days to do our taxes… Yay!

Yay for the AOTC!! I didn’t factor in $2,500 x 2 kids = $5,000 in tax credit!! I thought we were going to owe $2,000, but now we’re going to get a $3,000 refund! 2017 is looking better.

Plus, it looks like my son won’t have to pay much if anything in taxes since he is staying overseas and not coming home for a couple of years. He will thrilled.

Mango Talenti. Addictive.

You’ve put off this surgery for over a year. You can hardly walk. You no longer drive. You are not yet 60, and you have four beautiful grandchildren. Please don’t wind up in a wheelchair like mom. You may have thought she had a good quality of life, but she didn’t, and none of us who took care of her did, either. If you won’t do it for yourself, do it for your kids and those grandchildren. I’m not even going to mention that we’ve all planned travel and time off work already to be home with you and help you recuperate. You’re not in this alone. Get it over with!

so you cannot even step up now? I am seriously disappointed.
I may reconsider. After all, I really would like to have something different happen.

The Maine state legislature has LOST IT!!! Two pending bills:

  1. Eliminate continuing education requirements for professional engineers. Yeah, that's real bright. Codes and design methods change constantly. Do you want an engineer designing your building who hasn't kept up with the latest developments??
  2. Require state-funded buildings to be constructed of wood. ?? I think the "cross-laminated timber" people have been lobbying our representatives, but this is absurd. We design a lot of small structures, like houses, out of wood, but it's not a practical material for a lot of buildings.

So now several structural engineers, including me, have to waste our time drafting up a statement and traveling to the state capital to tell these people, politely of course, that they’ve lost their minds.

I really detest the “skin in the game” metaphor. Presumably I can say this? A lot of people use it (mainly men in my experience), including my department chairperson.

Sadly it looks like 2 more kids than whose parents never helped them figure out a r alisto. College budget BEFORE applying to schools and are now having to have some very difficult choices and conversations late in the applications and admissions cycle.

Seems like CC parents unsuccessfully tried to get these kids to include schools known to offer merit to high stat kids but were mostly ignored and now much time has passed and there are fewer and less pleasant options.

It is just a bird. Why am I so sad?! RIP, mama falcon :frowning:

Seriously, I can’t stand it when I have to sit by you at a restaurant. You grill the server, how filling is it? Does it have a lot of butter? Is it spicy? Then you order and then change your mind. And don’t tell me that you don’t eat red meat and then wish you ordered the gyro!

Oh and when you tell me how you are a healthy eater and only eat salads. Then you ordered the soup, the fish and dessert!

Banging my head against the wall. How one person can be so reliably annoying?

I feel a slight sense of responsibility. I suspected that your father abused you as a child. You announced it as a middle schooler and social services investigated , but missed what was going on. I have a picture of you and your sister standing with my daughters on the first day of school, waiting for the bus to pick you all up.

Where you are today , compared to where my daughter who was in your class is truly heartbreaking and shocking. Two little girls growing up and going through the same sought after public school system , and yet you fell through the cracks.

I wish I had made it more my business than I did…I wish someone in your life did right by you.

Please don’t drop guilt bombs. Your unhappiness with our choice is not going to change our minds.

So, 70% of this town voted for you and now (on top of other things) you’re taking away our train. No airport for 120 miles. Used to be able to hop onboard and go to D.C, New York, Orlando, Chicago, Colorado and more! What a freeing thing, and all without driving a mile. The train has brought tourists to ride our bike trail and spend money in our tiny tourist industry. It’s going, going gone. Now I feel so stuck in these mountains. And this town is going to disintegrate more without this bit of lifeblood. I guess this is what you mean by infrastructure?

How come I’m never on the winning end of the “let’s split the bill” deal.

Note to self: pack your own snacks for return amtrak trip, Skittles do not go well with chardonnay!

Unpopular opinion on CC: spouse and I have worked, saved, and invested with the specific purpose of letting our kid attend the college of her choice. When the kid gets into good ones, and there are price differences, I am not going to feel guilty about letting her choose the best option rather than the cheapest (unless they turn out to be the same). Sorry, everyone.

I’m on the board of the structural engineers association in Maine. We are opposing a bill that would discontinue continuing education requirements for engineers here. The director of the licensing board wrote me a long letter. At the end he wrote, “All of these organizations benefit financially from mandated continuing education, and have a vested interest in the continuing education program.” Umm, these groups are non-profit. All the directors serve on a voluntary basis. Any money we happen to make we put towards engineering scholarships and Engineering Week activities. I’ve rarely felt this insulted.

Wow, your years of lying about anything and everything have caught up with you in the most spectacular and public way. I actually feel a little sorry for you - not because your lies were exposed but because of the publicity, which has shocked us all. My sympathy will probably be short lived once I see the next set of lies and lack of taking responsibility for the situation you have ended up in. Or if you try and borrow money again from us or the kids. Maybe you’ll surprise me.

A stamp with a snake on it… How appropriate for mailing my Comcast bill.
