I love my special group of friends. It’s a joy to spend time with this group and so unusual that all members (including spouses) genuinely like each other. Saturday night was a blast. Great food, great wine, great conversations. Can’t wait to next month’s gathering.
Please don’t dismiss it as parental hysteria; this hurricane looks bad. Make your preparations now!
I don’t ask very often, but I’d love a little pixie dust here. Kid has a job interview this afternoon for what she calls her “dream job”. Please let it go well, this kid could use some things to go her way for once, job wise.
My BIL is having a kidney transplant, and his youngest child is the donor. Asking for good thoughts, please.
Why yes, the airline rules apply to you as well
How on earth can you sit there & giggle like school girls while we bust our butts right in front of you? We have been putting in 12-14 hour days while you all work 8 … and take lunch every day … and don’t work on weekends. But you all opine about how hard “everyone “ works. Yeah, right.
You can try all the double talk you want.
Cheating is wrong. You cheated.
Period.
We’ve been friends for a long time. We’ve seen each other, and our kids, through birthday parties and snowstorms and beach days and good and not so good teachers and field days and New Years Eves and Christmases.
THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart, for deciding to evacuate your new home on a barrier beach of North Carolina. I know it’s hard to come home under these circumstances. But you guys and your kids are like family to us.
We would hate to lose you.
So, again, thank you. I’ll sleep so much better tonight knowing you’re on your way to safety.
Please let these things work out for her. She can use a break.
Trying not to feel scared that within a month of starting school, baby girl is ensconced in her dorm awaiting Hurricane Florence. Prayerful no flooding or major damage will occur and school can re-open on Monday morning.
You forgot to type “Well, actually” at the start of that.
Both BIL and niece are out of surgery and in recovery. So far so good! I appreciate everyone’s good thoughts.
My SIL said that the waiting room was for the family of all kinds of patients, including maternity. One woman having a baby hemorraghed out. So tragic. Texas has a ridiculously high maternal mortality rate.
I have to remind myself that whatever problems I have are small when compared to the scale of others…praying for the safety of the millions in the path of Florence
You were supposed to be going on a fun trip to New Orleans. Instead you had to make an emergency trip to the other coast to pick up your beautiful daughter’s remains because she felt depression was too painful and life was too hard. I simply cannot imagine your pain. There are no words. Opening up facebook to this message was so shockingly painful. I cannot imagine how you handled that phonecall. Pease everyone, hug your kids and remind them that you are there to help. Anytime. Anywhere. Anyhow.
So. Sick. Of. Rain.
Bumped into the 4th grade teacher of my son (now 26) in the grocery store. Her husband was S’s XC coach in high school. The team was ranked the best one in Maine for the first decade of the century - S was ranked as the third best runner on the team during that time. The coach reached out to us when he heard that S had fallen ill and they went out for pizza together. The teacher wanted to know all about S and said they think of him often. I told her how S tries to make every day a 10.
I deserve a cookie for pretending to be unflustered during that particular version of the sex talk. One of those cookies that’s the size of your head, with a ton of mix-ins.
About a year ago there was a terrible hurricane expected to hit Florida, so my aunt unexpectedly sent my mom up on a plane, from there to my house. There was some drama, because it was unexpected, she had to get a flight with a layover, my mom who had dementia got off the plane (fortunately someone got her back on track pretty quickly), there were multiple trips to the airport, etc.
My mom was here for about a week - she got to spend time with me, see both of her grandsons (her favorite people in the world), meet a serious girlfriend, visit with another sister and her family, and have crabs while looking out on the bay, another favorite activity.
I will always remember that hurricane as a positive event, because a month or so later my mom died unexpectedly after a short illness.
Dang printer, did you have to act up and stop printing it for the one major event we have every year, you pick NOW to act up? Thanks a bunch!?!!??! Fortunately, we have the small, often ignored HP as a backup, but I’m not sure whether it’s really up to the job.
Last year at this time we were on one of the last flights out of town to fly across country for the birth of our first grandchild. We changed our flight to an earlier one, and apparently, according to the pilot, closed it not long after we left. Well, here we go again. We are heading out for her first birthday, and depending on the path and speed of the storm, we may not make it back after the birthday party. Hope this doesn’t happen every year.
Stay safe and dry, everyone.
