Scandal TV show

I don’t know if there is a thread already discussing the show. I still really like it, but am getting tired of the writers pulling from real life. Impeaching and the thin veiled storyline of Clinton. This last one mimicking the Cosby drugged rapes. Seems lazy writing to me.

I agree… could "Scandal: be jumping the shark here. Actually the entire storyline is pretty tiresome.

I watched the first 4 (?) seasons this summer on Netflix and liked them except several were too gruesome for me. Since I’ve started watching them ‘live’ (I usually watch them the next day online), they’ve just seemed boring, not ‘must watch TV’ at all but something to fill in when I have an hour.

Stopped watching when the bodies started piling up. Additionally tired of the whole Fitz love affair thing, not compelling, no chemistry that I could see, just got bored.

I liked the first couple of seasons, but I don’t like it much anymore. I’m still watching, though. Fitz is boring to me.

Just caught up on the last several episodes… I don’t love it anymore, but I still like it and am watching. I’m not sure why – I guess I’m hoping to love it again.

I never liked Fitz, but my family got me hooked. I like the side characters the most. twoinanddone mentioned the gruesome side. I like it.

Missed the last few weeks and forced myself to watch on-line what I could. ABC restricts the previous week to certain cable companies. Time warmer is not among them. Since I cannot keep up to date and the story line is getting a bit old, I’ll probably end up not watching. I mean Oliva Make Up Your Mind already.

Poor Shonda Rhimes, you’re all going to put her into an early grave! :stuck_out_tongue:

Shonda Rhimes should be a playwright. She writes extended speeches as well as anyone in the business, I think. They may be what keep me coming back. Again, not Liv’s. But Cyrus, Mellie, Rowan, Jake, and some of the others often get to go off for 2-3 minutes on something, and quite often its compelling to the point of genius. Maybe people find that dull. If your complaint is that it’s not good theater, OK. I can respect that. If your complaint is that you don’t like theater, well, that’s a different conversation. I think Rowan, Quinn, Jake, and to a lesser extent Huck are remarkably complex for broadcast TV. Rowan especially. Once he gets talking, I just sit back and grin. I’m a writer, if that’s not obvious, and I wish I wrote his dialogue, it’s that good, sometimes.

And FWIW, Scandal is not modeled on the Shakespearian tragedy we are accustomed to. It’s Greek, baby, all the way. I find it helps if I put myself into a classical Greek mindset, where people kill babies and blind themselves, and duty actually matters.

Wow. I ranted.

^ I can see that and that’s not it…what happens when Shonda’s shows go on too long is she returns to the same well repeatedly as far as plot, which gets boring. It feels like she’s even bored of it. Grey’s Anatomy is another example of this. I like one of Shonda’s newer shows a lot – the body count is probably higher and the plot is insane, but it’s still fresh and I look forward to seeing it each week.

You must mean “How to Get Away with Murder” I love that show! I still like Scandal, though, too.

I love the soliloquies! Those are the best part of the show…Rowan, Cyrus and Mellie at the top for me. I’m talking about the current unimaginable story lines this season…mimicking real life stuff We have read over and over. Never really did see what Olivia sees in Fritz…they never let us see him be a great man and leader…they just tell us he is, so I never bought into him being so fascinating.

I enjoy the show but I HATE Fitz and I hate the romance between Olivia and him (he?). No chemistry, he’s irritating, and I will never forgive him for the death of Patrick Swayze in Ghost

Say it isn’t so? He was the one to kill Patrick Swayze? I must watch that movie again.

I did like when he took her on a date, knowing the news people would be filming everything.

I think the chemistry between Fitz and Olivia is–or at least was–palpable. Does anyone remember the scene where, before going into a room with other people, he said “Just stand here with me” or words to that effect? Fanning self.

I don’t think there is any chemistry between them. One of them (usually her) is constantly changing his/her mind about the relationship.

Nah, I don’t see the chem either. But what really bugs me right now is all the guilty grimacing O has to do. And the suspense re: Cyrus and what he’s up to. A good season, to me, is more straightforward. Right now it seems soap opera-ish.

I miss the client storylines. I do like when Sally Langston gets on her high horse.
And I find it better when I watch online, don’t get distracted.

I really miss the client storylines too. I’m losing interest quickly.

I loved this last episode, and this recap (spoilers obviously) is almost better than the ep was: http://www.vulture.com/2015/11/scandal-recap-season-5-episode-9.html
