I was just curious to know where those who are applying SCEA are from; i.e. how diverse the applicant pool is. I am a white female from a large public suburban high school in Iowa.

Asian American female from medium-sized suburban high school in southern California. Bleh.

Black male from a large suburbian school in Miami. Originally from Haiti.

Asian-American female from small private international high school in Seoul, Korea. But I lived for most of my life in New York, attending large public suburban schools until the beginning of 9th grade.

OK, let’s spice this up a bit. Let’s add:
Academic interests:theater/biology
What you’ll do if you get into Yale: post more “lux et veritas” signs all over my house…omg! and run around screaming my head off
Your catch: swimming obsessed, theater lover
Why you want to go to Yale: for the experience as well as the strong arts tradition
Where you’d LOVE to study abroad: London
Expected response to going off on your own: I’m free! It’s ok if I only get to go home twice a year!
Fears about Yale: I’ll be stressed out. I’m scared, but it would be so awesome to go to Yale!

This is so cool! We’re so diverse! Yay.

Academic Interests: Neuroscience
What I’ll do if I get into Yale: Call up the valedictorian: “IN YOUR FACE!”
Catch: Music (sent in recording)
Why Yale is great: resources, music library, regular library, flute program, the notion that I will finally be at the bottom of the pack. That will be cool.
Where I’m definitely going Junior year: Vienna (Wien. Gotta speak the language )
Response to going off on own: Wooooooohoooooooo!
Fears about Yale: coldness. The coldness. [shivers in anticipation]

A little sarcasm, huh, tkm256? I see you’re from Temecula…I have a friend who used to live there. Anyway, I don’t know if you’ve ever been to Iowa, but (though it is a decent state), it is not very diverse. I guess I am just trying to see what’s out there… one of the reasons I want to go to Yale. If I end up going to a state school, I’ll be in a fairly homogenous population- about 90% white, mostly Iowa students. Maybe I’m just a little naive, and that’s why I posted this thread. But whatever.

Academic Interests: life
What I’ll do if I get into Yale: go into debt and buy dinner for the whole block
Catch: me if you can
Why Yale is great: libraries, residential colleges, people
Junior Year: Prague.
Response to going off on own: is there a stove?
Fears about Yale: i guess i’ll find out whether i should even think about this in december.

No, I’m serious. I really do look forward to being number two hundred something. Temecula is a pretty small place. I’m stuck being ‘the role model’ and expected to have the highest grades, win all the competitions, etc. It’s horrid pressure. I’d like to be in the midst of a lot of people who don’t expect me to be a Renaissance woman.

Or did you mean it was sarcasm to say we’re so diverse? We really are…I mean we’re all from different parts of the country (or out of it )

Oh, sorry. I didn’t see your third post before I sent that. I meant the diverse part. Anyway, I really DO have to go to sleep now. Maybe I’ll get on again tomorrow.

Academic interests:film.
What you’ll do if you get into Yale: feel weak in the knees. then call my friends.
Your catch: ecs that take me around the world. its fab.
Why you want to go to Yale: its an awesome school with a pretty decent film studies program for a top ranked school.
Where you’d LOVE to study abroad: no boring european countries, been there, done that. probably mexico to be a part of the amazing film culture thats growing there.
Expected response to going off on your own: no manhattan, no east river. where are all the taxis?
Fears about Yale: i won’t be able to escape from the gazillion kids from my prep who also go there. seriously, there must be about thirty of them there now.

I’m a white female from a public school in suburban/rural Maryland.

Academic interests:Foreign Languages/Linguistics/International Relations
What you’ll do if you get into Yale: I’m at a loss of words. Something crazy though I’m sure.
Your catch: Unusual policy position, legacy
Why you want to go to Yale: I truly believe that Yale has figured out the formula to ensure an unmatched academic and social life for its students
Where you’d LOVE to study abroad: London, Spain, and Egypt (so I can learn Spanish, Arabic, and British English). Maybe somewhere in Africa too if that is an option.
Expected response to going off on your own: Finally!
Fears about Yale: Resenting it for the rest of my life for getting rejected?

Academic interests:writing, history, psychology, literature-- almost anything that’s remotely related to the humanities, really
What you’ll do if you get into Yale: start tearing up, sob hysterically, laugh hysterically, dance with my grandmother, go outside and do cartwheels, before falling into a dead faint.
Your catch: tasp probably. and writing + research.
Why you want to go to Yale: residential colleges, awesome people, fantastic publications, harold bloom.
Where you’d LOVE to study abroad: pretty much anywhere. i love travel, and i would honestly just love to go around the world.
Expected response to going off on your own: i’ll be glad to leave high school, but wow, is my dorm going to be a mess.
Fears about Yale:that i’ll realize i’m hopelessly inadequate. or really, my top fear right now is that i’ll be rejected.

Expected response to going off on your own: i’m gonna miss my family!! they’re going to be 7000 miles away =( and i’ll miss the korean food… oh lordy. but that doesn’t change the fact that i GOTTA get out of here haha
Fears about Yale: that i’ll be rejected! or that my mediocre brains will flunk out. and i’m not too excited about the new haven part… hehe. im a city girl. but YALE > city, anyday.

Fears about Yale: It’s going to b my first time to go to the US- so ill b realllyyy excited but scared that Yale won’t b all I think it is. Also I’m a little scared that people will think im all pro-terrorism because im Arab and Muslim (and yes sadly this has happened to me before, and yes it was 4 Americans who said it- but it’s not like I think Americans are like that I was just surprised and I thought it was kinda sad and in case ur wondering IM NOT PRO TERRORISM AT ALL!!)
