hi, but a FAFSA is needed for a plus or student loan, correct? different question than above but since it’s related, at least in my mind, I figured i’d ask.

just submitted the last document to Pitt for scholarship consideration. it’s out of our hands now and I;m glad our part in this process is over. Kid got accepted to honors college in September BTW.

yeah, D says she’s done with the applications as of today. wrote a final essay to WashU last night in Italian–her way of celebrating the end, FINE. whatever.

I’m still pretty tightly wound, ctl, what are you doing to unwind? what are the rest of you doing to celebrate the end of this process? the end for many of us, at least.

my worst part was in October/November when I realized he would not be applying to schools there was great choices for him academically and professionally, but… they were in California. Once I came to peace with him not applying and losing his best chance at sizable mert aid at those schools, the undwinding started. it was still sad to get an e-mail from one of them today reminding him today was the last day to apply
He’s been accepted to another schoool with full tuition so we know he has one good affordable choice on the table so that helped a lot with unwinding too. He got that letter around Thanksgiving. I think once you complete the last thing that’s within your power, the unwinding naturally starts to take place. We’re not really doing anything to celebrate. Maybe we should be. He is spending as much time as he can with 2 of his friends, including one who is probably his best friend, cause the guys realize they are going in 3 separate directions next year
and to him, having that time with his friends, which they started in the fall, was more important than taking the time to study and retake SAT, work on the perfect essay, etc. he was one of the lucky ones where a safety school as far as acceptance was a great match with what he’s looking for in a college so once he knew he’d get a sizable scholarship there, he was pretty laid back about the whole college process. onward to FAFSA’s, admitted student days, orientations, and i say with mixed feelings, next fall
:’(

seems like quite the young man, ctl. I wish I could have let go in October. I was focused on the money, too, but for much longer. Just found out this morning that one of the full-tuition schools isn’t getting an application. I just said, “uh-huh,” and let it go, but walked out the door with my gut in a knot. Times like these I wish I was a drinker, but all I can do is keep breathing.

shopping then??! But make sure you don’t take the credit card with the $20000 crazy spending limit!!! We’ll need some, I mean all, of that next year
ugh, on the full tuition school not gettiing an app… aagh. Been there. I am guessing urs has some options already but u are wondering what on earth Pitt will do with his or her merit aid? i am surprised at some of the kids who are still waiting and have great stats(like a 2300 SAT). Yikes…

I about blew that pepsi across the dining room table! that’s a good one, ctl! me relaxing while shopping? I’d rather stick needles in my eyes than go shopping. unless it’s for fishing equipment…

nah, I’m gonna be good and spend all my money on D’s education 8+)

yup. the news coming out of CC on pitt’s merit aid has been none too encouraging.

jkeiil, it just hit me, ur probably dad!!! yeah, shopping then. blah… well, get some fishing equipment then!

I haven’t heard anything about merit yet
I’m starting to think that Pitt is out of the question now . But I’ll keep everyone updated if I get any word.

In other news, I just finished all of my applications!!!
TIME TO PARTAYY…
jk. I think I’ll just go sleep.

I can’t, ctl. There’d be no stopping me! Don’t you know how it is when you’re feeling utterly reckless? 8+)

Sleep, Savannah? Identify first this quote from Shakespeare without recourse to google:

the innocent sleep,

Sleep that knits up the raveled sleave of care,
The death of each day’s life, sore labor’s bath,
Balm of hurt minds, great nature’s second course,
Chief nourisher in life’s feast…

Update: waiting just received the $15K scholarship so now we have full tuition for one and $15K for the other… an affordable school for both. Feeling grateful.

3tallblonds, Congratulations! I’m sure that’s a relief!

We are planning a visit on the Feb 22nd admitted students’ day. Anyone else?

Congrats and well earned 3tallblonds, and jkeil, no clue on ur Shakespeare quote. Enlighten us!

Congrats 3tallblonds!

Macbeth, act 2, scene 2: Macbeth to Lady M: Methought I heard a voice cry “Sleep no more! Macbeth does murder sleep!”
The passage of this dialogue that I quoted however refers to the balm that sleep brings when one hasn’t murdered it. Has anyone been watching House of Cards with Kevin Spacey? Another macbeth drama.

Twillsmomnp, we are planning on going that day also… you will notice the 2 Tall Blonds in attendance with their tall dad. 3rd Tall Bond and I will be at home
I’m a little conflicted about the Honors Day option vs. the Day for Admitted Students but I’m afraid we can’t wait until April 11th given that Pitt is a real viable option. It will be part of a 6 campus tour during our Feb. break. 2,000 miles. Oh boy. When I applied, I visited 1 school, Purdue, applied and was done. Times have changed.

Titanmom, yes you heard waiting sing the nat’l anthem at the hockey game. And yes, same 2 that played vball w/ your friend’s daughters and are in the musicals. You are a great detective. I emailed you with questions. Thanks so much for all your help! We love Web. Thomas… clearly they have done so much good for our girls.

3tallblonds, that sounds like quite the whirlwind tour! Hopefully the weather will cooperate! We’ll look for twins that fit your description. I agree that April is too late.

and jumping in, i think April is too late too. We’ve seen Pitt already and it’s currently my son’s second choice. It is a a GREAT school btw. It dropped to 2nd due to my kid’s intended fields of study and had nothing to do with the campus vibe, which he loved. We are going to visit his first choice (again) in Feb for admitted students day with honors options to help cement or perhaps unglue his decision. more likely cement but I priortized top school gets the first spring trip. Y’all will have a busy but I think great February!

please, what is the date for the earlier Honors Day?

The first Honor’s Day is March 28th. We are attending that day!
