School charging for ID cards?

This year my school is starting to charge $25 for ID cards. It’s just a plastic card with your picture. If you don’t pay you get a little piece of paper with your name and student number on it. Do your schools make you pay for ID cards? I think it’s ridiculous. I go to a poor public high school in a low-income area and I think it’s absurd for them to ask students to pay for ID cards, and science and art class fees of $20 for each class, and then some teachers requiring fees for THEIR classes although I have no idea what they use it for. For example last year in my Anatomy class we paid $20 so we could dissect a cat, but we never did it. I think it’s unfair they’re making us pay for something so simple as ID cards.

they shouldn’t charge you for that. Is there really anything you really need it for? becuase you shouldn’t bother buying it.

middle school was free (charge for replacement). high school was free (charge for replacement). college is 5 bucks (charge for replacement). For the schools I’ve gone to, we need the cards to check out books and such. We’ve never had to pay the teachers for anything (supplies, lab equipment, etc)

so far both of my college IDs have been free (with a replacement charge), and the only time I ever needed one was for a discount at taco bell one day.

Yeah my school is stupid. You can’t get into any school dances or prom or sports events without the $25 ID card, but I’m not planning to go anyways.

School charges us $6…
But i agree, 25$ is expensive for a plastic piece of crap

Yea, $25 is quite a bit. I think IDs are free at my school, $2.50 for a replacement. We need ours everywhere- in between classes, to leave campus, sporting events, prom, library, etc.

We have class fees too, but of course not for english, math or history.

I’m sure if absolutely necessary, they could waive the ID fee…

our first ID card is free but we have to pay a $5 replacement fee for a second card

1st card is free, other card is $2 replacement.
Your school should only charge for the first card.

I remember in middle school I had to pay a mandatory $700 fee and $75 for math supplies. It’s supposed to be a PUBLIC school. It was waived if you were living in poverty which really sucks for you if you were $200 over the brightline.

That’s crazy for a public school.

For us (public school), it’s free and $5 for a replacement.

Are you serious about the seven hundred dollars? Wow…

I remember last year there was a local scandal of sorts because the high school was charging kids to be in the honors programs.

hm. i go to a private school so we’re pretty much charged for everything lol i dont think they charge us outright for the ID cards… but then again they charge us $5 on our tuition bill for the student handbook (which they just give you, there’s no option whether you want it or not) so who knows

Education should be free. We are the future. Things like this hinder us. What do you mean by low-income? There are different definitions people use.

That’s ridiculous about the $700! I thought we had it bad with ID cards ($30), sports ($80 per season), and honor society. Not to mention the super expensive optional stuff (prom, yearbooks, etc.)

we have to pay 140 for sports, 40 for clubs, 3 for a planner…but gosh they are so generous and they give us ID cards for free

Our school isn’t exactly BOE regulated.
The school can pass/fail kids by their own standard. Standardized testing is also optional. It’s a really liberal school in Chelsea.

we get free id’s but you have top pay $1 for a temporary, and 5 for a replacement.
But I hate the fact that we have to pay an honors fee for almost every class, like math ten dollars for calculators which we don’t even use most of the time, business another ten bucks, for materials, what materials do we need in business?
Last year a teacher got fired for spending the honors fee to fix his car,lol/.

I went to a private school and they charged us for a lot of extra random **** too.

At our school our parking stickers are 75 dollars!!!
