I am the chair of the GSA club at my school. We faced controversy by putting pro-LGBT posters up around the school earlier this year and faced a lot of backlash. This led to the creation of our school’s new Republican club as it is run by the same people who bragged about ripping down our posters and mocked GSA on social media. The club seems to have been targeting LGBT students since the beginning, with their first tweet being about our posters. They have also tweeted offensive remarks about support violence against democrats, tweeting #stopislam, mocked a trans student who committed suicide and the ‘LGBT’ agenda. Many people including myself have talked to the school admin about this and nothing has been done. Keep in mind, I have no problem with a republican club and come from a republican family, it’s just many of the things they tweet are not appropriate being a club. Recently, the GSA club got permission to decorate the school mascot (any club can reserve this right) so I spent hours decorating it. A day later, on the day of silence (anti-LGBT bullying day) they tweeted a pic of our mascot mocking it tagging fox news, though they never asked for the mascot. It was obvious it was targeting LGBT so I went to admin and they didn’t do anything, but rather called down the president and asked if his feelings were hurt. They then gave the GOP club the mascot starting next week, though we only had it up for 2 days and were told we could have it the rest of the year. This absolutely enraged me, I tweeted some negative things calling the club sh*tty, which I regret but I tend to get heated in the moment. I later apologized but the club then continued to harass me personally and the president’s mom who is a teacher at school began subtweeting and personally attacking me. I don’t know what to do I have contacted the deans and apologized for my language, but I am reaching a point where this club is just too much. I have tried mediating with the club so our two clubs can resolve the issue but they won’t respond. So, what do I do? Isn’t this targeted harassment of another group? I am not sure how to get the group to stop or to have the admin help out.
Wow, this post really made me realize why my school’s GSA had only one announcement and meets somewhat secretly.
If the administrators aren’t doing anything, go to the school board or the police. That is not okay.

Keep going up the chain of power and you will find help. Unfortunately, it might not be that you find someone that really cares about your situation but at least you will make someone do something so they can keep their job.
You need to go above the principal to the superintendent or the BoE. It sounds like this “republican” club is just using republican as a mask for what they really are: a hate group. If they are speaking their mind in a neutral tone and happen to be offensive to you, unfortunately there is nothing that can be done. However, this situation sounds like they are acting maliciously, so the school administration is a serious failure for allowing this to continue for so long. Hate speech is not protected.
