<p>My Scripps interview with an alumna is this weekend. I’m thinking it’s going to be probably casual- we’re just meeting at a local coffee shop, and I think she’s fairly young- she graduated in 2005.</p>
<p>So what should I wear? I searched through past threads on CC, and one person said to “wear what you’d wear at school + 1 unit of dressiness”. I usually wear jeans to school, so can I wear jeans? With a nice top or cardigan and nice shoes? Or are jeans bad?</p>
<p>You could wear jeans with a nice top and shoes…I’m sure that would be just fine (nice-ish jeans, i.e. no big holes). But I’d recommend stepping up one notch. Khakis would be great. A simple skirt would also work. Any other non-denim, non-cargo slacks would be fine.</p>
<p>There’s no need to go business-suit-and-heels. Like I said, I’m sure jeans would be fine. But just to be on the safe side, I’d probably take it up one more notch if possible. Think “business casual,” emphasis more on the “casual” part. </p>

<p>I don’t know what you should wear, but good luck! My brother was an intern and said it was a lot of fun. I’m trying to get it this year, too. 
I’m sure a normal attiire would be appropriate though. If it’s at a local coffee shop, then they’re probably just trying to make you more comfortable.</p>
<p>I’d go with a nicer pair of pants than jeans, if you’ve got them - khakis, dress pants, or a casual skirt. One mistake I’ve seen some folks make is to wear shirts that are low cut or sheer, which can be distracting. </p>
<p>Other piece of advice - wear something comfortable, so you’re not thinking of your clothes while you’re talking. I once did a job interview in a suit that made me itch - very distracting!</p>
<p>I think some parts of the country you could go with a nice dark pair of jeans, a top and then some sort of structured jacket to polish it off.
My daughter had an on campus interview and she wore some black pants (not real dressy ones) a top, jacket and nice shoes. But I think she could have also used nice dark jeans with her outfit, but that is in CA.</p>
<p>I know I visited my brother once in Alabama and no one was wearing jeans, not even to the grocery store. And that was about all I brought. I felt underdressed everywhere we went.
So consider what passes for business casual in your part of the country and you should be safe.</p>
