Scripps College RD 2024

Merit scholarships are in the acceptance letter. Need-based aid likely is updated at a later date.

Daughter waitlisted. I think I’m more sad about it than she is, as she interviewed & did a guided tour. We are fairly local/in-state.

Rejected! ):
4.5(UW) / 3.98 (W)
1330 SAT (low due to extreme circumstance)

D20 waitlisted. I’m sadder than she is.

D20 Accepted! She is beyond excited!
3.8/4.4 13 APs, mostly 5s and 4s. 1430 SAT

D accepted - very excited, but not sure it will be possible without Merit

3.8/4.3 GPA, 12+ APs
31 ACT
Pretty significant ECs (Leadership, Music, Sports) + national honors like NSLI-Y (Amman), BofA Student Leader, Coca Cola Semi, Presidential Scholar Nominee, etc.

We knew her stats were lower, but were really hoping she’d receive some merit. Still very excited to have been admitted

Daughter accepted yesterday! This was one of her top choice schools so she is very excited.

DD rejected. :frowning: This was her top choice. I feel so bad for her, but she got into her 2nd choice and a few others, so at least she has good options.
1520 SAT
3.7 UW/4.3 W GPA
Decent amt of ECs, but not a ton of leadership
6 APs (4s/5s)
NMS Finalist

D accepted. 4.0 UW/ 1350 SAT/ 6APs
This was the last one she was waiting for. Not sure which school she will choose but feel fortunate she has good options.

Accepted with the James E. Scripps scholarship ($28k per year)!!
3.9 UW, 1550 SAT, Decent ECs. I think my essays showed a lot of interest, and I interviewed
Dont think i’ll end up attending but still feels really good

Accepted with 20k/yr scholarship!
4.0/4.71, 34, AP 5 x 5, one 4.
Interview wasn’t good…
Had some fun with the essays, maybe that helped!
Variety of ECs with commitment.

Congrats to the admits! Quite a few waitlist offers - are you going to accept a spot on the wait list? Scripps has relied more heavily on the waitlist for yield-management in the past few years, after the over-enrollment snafu of 2017. With all of the instability in this pandemic year, I wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up drawing from the waitlist quite a bit. It seems likely that yield could drop, with families opting to be more conservative both in terms of spending and in terms of distance-from home. I’d definitely stay on the wait list and see what happens, if Scripps is really where you’d like to go.

@aquapt Daughter opted in to the waitlist but isn’t counting on much, esp because we presume admission wouldn’t come with any merit.

Congrats to those admitted & with merit, though…it is a beautiful school!

@SoCalKel Did she send a LOCI?

@aquapt hiii you seem really knowledgeable about Scripps’ admissions process/waitlist! i was waitlisted & submitted a letter in mid-march/submitted another letter just now because i really really would love to go to Scripps! it’s my top choice. i have a fine gpa and a 1450 SAT. i feel like i should be doing more to express my interest, because it would be a dream come true to become a part of Scripps… is there anything else i should try to do, or just sit tight and wait for the waitlist decision so as not to be a bother? thank you!!

@collegeapp001 I wouldn’t say I’m super-knowledgeable about waitlist admissions specifically… but it sounds to me like you’ve done enough if you’ve submitted two letters and made clear that Scripps is your top choice and you would attend if admitted. (That last part is important to state, providing it is true!)

At this point, the college has to see what its yield will look like after the commitment deadline. Some colleges have extended the May 1st deadline, but Scripps has not, so far as I’ve heard and seen on the website. Hopefully they’ll have a pretty good idea by next week of how many accepted students are committing; and then they can begin to consider how many students they can accept from the waitlist.

Yield management is particularly important for small colleges this year, as they’re under financial pressure to fill their entering classes, but they also cannot afford to over-enroll since they will need enough dorm capacity for social distancing and designated quarantine spaces. They will need to move carefully and optimize class size.

In the meantime, you should deposit at your first choice school among your acceptances, unless that deadline has been extended. Good luck!

@aquapt okay! thank you!!
