Thank you, and no I’m not local @Caligirl24
@calbound24 oh well I mean I will probably never know why I was waitlisted but I have my fingers crossed for SDSU
And you also did get into Fullerton and that isn’t easy especially for nursing! Good luck and I hope you get in to SDSU too @Caligirl24
@calbound24 thank you

@Cat420 ohhhh okay, thank you so much!
@disney4cam How did you hear that Pepperdine was tomorrow? I’ve looked for a date and couldn’t find one. That would be great!!
@HappyMomInCA From here! lol On the Pepperdine page. Apparently it’s the third Friday in March. My daughter and I are dying, so if it’s not tomorrow I might explode! Is your child applying as well?
@disney4cam Pepperdine is tomorrow. My daughter is working with the swim coach at that school and he confirmed it will be tomorrow.
What are my chances of getting into the aerospace engineering program?
GPA: 3.78
SAT: 1240
@disney4cam Haha! I know!! The waiting is killing us!! My daughter applied to Pepperdine as well. The only schools we are waiting for are a couple So Cal schools, SDSU and Pepperdine included. She has heard from everywhere else and just waiting for those to make her final decision. I swear these last couple weeks have felt like years!!! Where else are you waiting for?
SDSU without a doubt does not have local preference for its region anymore. “Local preference” is a specific concept that refers to preferred (or sometimes guaranteed) admission for every single freshman within a college’s service area. Here’s how Long Beach uses local preference, for example: http://www.csulb.edu/admissions/local-preference-admission-consideration
SDSU’s Compact for Success is a separate program for students in the Sweetwater high school district, that offers guaranteed admission if minimum criteria are met. Or it used to – seems like all that stuff changes every year.
@HappyMomInCA I hear you. My son has been waiting, waiting, waiting on SDSU…and his parents have been doing the same SDSU is the last place we need to hear from. He has gotten into a few WCC schools with generous merit awards, so that may be the direction he goes anyway. Good luck to you!
@“justaskin’” thanks for the info. my D is in the local service area and we were wondering if she’d be able to have a lower EI than other candidates for her major of Nursing. Some advantages she has received presumably for being local are consideration and acceptance for the full-tuition Merit Scholarship. And also she was granted acceptance into Weber even though she didn’t fill out an application for it. She simply asked during the Merit Scholar reception. She also doesn’t have to live on campus as do other freshmen since she is local. So there are some advantages to being local even if it doesn’t fit the original definition.
@“justaskin’” So what you’re saying is that SDSU’s “local preference” refers to preferred admission programs like this one. https://www.sandiegounified.org/sites/default/files_link/district/files/dept/secondary_schools,_office_of/newsletter/Nov17/InfoSheet_PreferredAdmissions_OCTOBER2017.pdf
@BayAreaLocal Good luck to your son! If you don’t mind me asking, where else did he apply, and where are his top choices? I hope he gets in wherever he’s hoping to get into!!
@HappyMomInCA This waiting feels like an eternity! lol She is only waiting on Pepperdine (and technically SDSU). Pepperdine is her #1 choice, but she needs their top scholarship for us to afford it. Luckily LMU came back with a generous offer, so that’s a definite option. We are heading down for admitted students day in April for her to revisit LMU and Pepperdine. How about your daughter? I hope it all works out for her.
@HappyMomInCA when were you able to get financial award information from LMU? I was told directly from the fin aid offices that no one has received notice of aid and that they send that out in early April. My daughter is graduating from there in May and walked down to the office to check in with them in person just to make certain. Is your daughter under some special circumstances? I really wish they could release that info sooner because this makes waiting so much harder! Thank you so much
@disney4cam I wasn’t aware of the admitted students day. I made sure if she gets in, we will go. We only briefly stopped by there on a So Cal college tour. I don’t have any idea if she will get in. I’m interested to see what happens. Good luck to your daughter! I hope she gets in!!
@PenelopeD I am not the one that got information from LMU. It might be @disney4cam.
@PenelopeD My daughter applied EA. Her financial aid info arrived pretty late - probably a couple months after her acceptance letter. So frustrating to have to wait so long for that information. Especially with the private schools where financial aid can make or break a decision.
@HappyMomInCA Admitted students day is in April (the 6th, I think). I just saw it on their academic calendar. No official word. But since we are in Norcal, I booked a flight anyway,
Sorry for hijacking the SDSU thread!
