SDSU Class of 2022 Applicant Thread

Called the admissions office and regular decisions won’t be out until next week. They should have either expedited decisions or moved this weekend’s event until after decisions. Dumb.

@Gumbymom I just wanted to point out that SDSU, unlike the rest of the CSUs, does not give preference to local applicants. Every other CSU can be considered a safety school for locals, but State cannot.

@peakay did they happen to say what day?

@justaskin’ how do you know that SDSU does not give local applicants preference?

With my stats what do you think are my chances of getting in? sdsu is my top choice but i am stressing out because of my sat and act scores are super bad;(
the GPA listed on my CSU application was a 4.2
and I got a 1050 on my SAT and a 21 on my ACT
I am majoring in pre-biology and i am an incoming freshman.
my extra curricular activities are that I have been on my school softball team for four years and i have had a jop since last summer. I have done community service here and there but was throughout high school super busy because of my sports.
thanks to anyone who replies!!

@Gumbymom do you think it is possible to get in to SDSU Communications major with a weighted 4.1 and a 25 ACT? (not local) Also, I don’t see much on CC about Cal State San Marcos. Any opinions/insight on that school? Thank you!!!

@happychick1 I applied before visiting the school, here was my personal opinion on the campus
the campus was pretty but it didn’t really feel connected
I believe it is a commuter campus mainly
The campus just didn’t feel lively like other campuses I’ve been to
But Again this is just my personal opinion

@happychick1 just to clarify i am talking about San Marcos not SDSU

Thank you so much @Caligirl24 !!

SDSU dropped local preference about 10 years ago. High school guidance counselors in the San Diego area caution local students not to rely on State as a safety school. The reasons behind removing local preference are kind of unclear, but probably have to do with a desire to position the school as a competitive research university. CSU San Marcos, about 40 minutes north of SDSU, is still a regional university.

@justaskin’: I should have clarified my answer saying that if you are applying to an impacted major or campus then local applicants are not guaranteed admission but following postings from local applicants, EI’s seem to be slightly lower to get an acceptance.

@happychick1: Your EI is borderline for SDSU. What matters is how your EI compares to the other Comm applicants.

@Gumbymom whats your opinion on the chances or admission with an eligibility index of 4484. Non nursing  I feel like you posted the averages a while back but I can’t find them. Thanks!

@crystallight: This year it seems that applicants are very competitive so many schools have upped the EI’s but you look solid but no guarantees. What major?

Pre-environmental engineering

@justaskin this is on the event day agenda; “SDSU Success Stories For Sweetwater Union High School District Students
Description: Compact Scholars are SUHSD students who are guaranteed admission to SDSU through the Compact for Success. ” CSU’s mission is to serve local communities with many feeder high schools. (Students from all high schools in San Diego County south of State Hwy 56 and Imperial County)

Thank you so much @Gumbymom

I was accepted to Sac State as a pre- nursing major, and my brother was accepted as a business major
I’m not sure why you were waitlisted, I think you had better stats than I do

@Caligirl24

I’m not sure, Congrats on your acceptance! @calbound24
Are you local?
