SDSU Class of 2022 Applicant Thread

Nope, local preference is a CSU thing. Guaranteed admission programs like PLTW and Compact for Success are campus-specific.

Hopefully decisions come out tomorrow guys!

Are they supposed to come out tmr ? @kbutter1234

I’m not sure but I was hoping @Cat420

okay first of all i thought no CSUs had early admittance? second, was there a separate application for honors college? (is there even an honors college) i have no idea how to find any of that information. i got in to the UCONN honors program and i didn’t even apply so not sure how it works for SDSU. also how hard should we try to go to the admitted students day this Saturday cuz i live in CT so it’s unlikely i can go and we still don’t even know if we’re admitted…

There was a seperate application for the honors college. An essay. I don’t think it’s a big deal if you don’t end up going. many are not because they don’t even know if they were accepted like you are.

@surprise99: All CSU’s require you apply to the Honors college while for some of the UC’s is automatic and others you apply. Each CSU determines if they will accept early. These are usually High stat applicants. When my son’s applied 3 and 4 years ago, they got early acceptances from SDSU , CSU Fullerton and Cal Poly Pomona. Decision dates change yearly so you never know any more when you will be given a decision but Freshman applicants should have their decisions by April 1

Congrats on UConn @surprise99 It is a great university. I work in higher ed and would highly recommend UConn over SDSU in terms of programs and reputation. This is not to knock SDSU (my son is hoping to go there), but UConn is at a different level as a major flasgship university. Good luck with your choice!

So is there a consensus about whether SDSU gives preference for local students? I’ve read back thru the thread and can’t figure it out. Thanks for any insights

It was always my understanding that SDSU was the feeder school for all schools located south of the 56 highway. Anything north of there was San Marcos. I wasn’t aware that they no longer had preference at SDSU. Someone did post the Project Lead the Way link which is in fact in place as my son applied through that but it is not a guarantee just a preferred admission but yet we still haven’t heard a peep either so who really knows.

Does anyone know much about appeals that could explain the process a little bit? Like how many appeals they accept and how to do it

@surprise99 There was a selection option for the honors college on the application. I think it was if you were interested, maybe, or not interested. My guess is that people who selected that they were definitely interested in honors college had their applications reviewed early.

@Cat420 I have no idea how many appeals they accept but I do know that there is a whole
page on their website and you write a letter explaining your extenuating circumstances and any supporting
information i.e paper work and documentation and then they review it and reply within 6 to 8 weeks with a decision. but does anyone know how many they take ?

so decisions are most likely not coming out until next week?

@nm4017 thank you !

Also I know certain schools have admission councelors specific to each person, is that for sdsu too?

The PLTW pact seems to indicate that it is a guarantee. What does “preferred admission” mean? Added points?

@Red12Girl girl the new pact has changed the wording to preferred not guarantee. It used to be a guarantee but I’m not sure when they changed it

None of this has been very clear and I’m not real impressed with our public servants. I think you are right but hoping wrong. Though a guarantee doesn’t make much sense to me. This is a link to something http://www.pltwcalifornia.org/view-content/50/Engineering-Compact.html

in case anyones wondering, as of now they haven’t posted anything on the portal
