@SmartGurl17 We just toured SDSU in Feb as S18 was admitted to Business in Dec. He really liked the positive campus environment and moved SDSU to the top 3 on his list. We were definitely more impressed by this college than we’d expected to be. It took us about 20 min to reach campus from the beach and 15 min from downtown SD.
@CopperlineX2 that’s good to hear, considering that I am majoring in film I dont know which college is a better choice.
I live here. You can get to downtown in about 30 min on the trolley. Great campus with beautiful architecture. They have some great programs. They had their big event yesterday for new students.
Does anyone know which CSU schools are excellent for film? Including csun
CSUN, CSULB, SDSU @SweetCaliforniaWeather-12
@CopperlineX2 great thank you! I will keep that in mind.
@SweetCaliforniaWeather-12 Steven Spielberg is a CSULB graduate. I think he started, never finished his degree, and then was awarded a degree later based on his achievements.
@BayAreaLocal I knew about Spielberg. That makes me happy. if I get into UCSB and UCI I will attend one of those two.
For CSU, I will have to choose among CSUN (accepted), CSULB, SDSU, Cal state LA, Sacramento State (waiting to hear from all them).
Any suggestions?
@SmartGurl17 It’s definitely in the city. The Campus is beautiful and the people are very nice. They’re definitely willing to help you out, especially if get lost. It is becoming more and more competitive with every year, so academically, it’s pretty good. It’s connected to the Trolley system so you can go anywhere in San Diego from SDSU. I’m a high school senior from the area and I have gone many college tours with my AVID class.
I would honestly like Cal State LA if it was equivalent of San Diego state.
@SmartGurl17 judging from the reviews, sdsu is right on top compared to cal state La. I heard the buildings there are pretty old and some people had problems with faculty and some students. Hope everyone who is local here and has experience can tell us more
Please if anyone on here knows the comparison between Cal State LA and SDSU that would be great. Son was accepted at Cal State L.A and we are waiting on SDSU like y’all. He was rejected by UCLA, UCSD, PItzer, Cal State LB. Accepted to LMU, Cal Lutheran, Cal State L.A., Cal Poly, and UCR. Out of those Cal Lutheran is giving, surprisingly, the best financial package. Plus their housing is super cheap. We live near Santa Monica so any of these will be good. Waiting for UCI,UCSB, USC and SDSU only. UGH.
His area of study will be forensic psychology and Cal State L.A has that. Otherwise UCR has medical school where he could go on to med school and do psychiatry
I have talked to seniors who got accepted to sdsu back in december with 2.9 gpa and 990 sat… is this because they are out of state?
@PenelopeD you should really have him tour the schools. It is well worth the time. What one person likes another may not. When I went through this with my daughter I loved csumb and she hated it. Ultimately they have to pick where they think they will be happiest. She ended up getting into uci as she never thought she stood a chance so we did a last min tour during spring break and she fell in love with it. I’d say make the trek down to SD for the day and have him check it out. We did the event yesterday for sdsu with my son who has kind of dished the school since it is local for us and he was actually quite impressed after walking around. Heck one dorm has a pool, free bowling on campus, a movie theater on campus. Last night I could hear him talking to his friends telling them how great it was. It definately moved up on the list for him.
@PenelopeD sdsu is a top ranking, i dont know about cal state la but many reviews are not positive.
I would like to know the difference too because i dont know in detail. I am still waiting to hear from cal state LA, CSULB, sacramento state, sdsu and UC
:)>-
@PenelopeD @SweetCaliforniaWeather-12 I have been on College tours for both Cal State LA and SDSU. I definitely have favoritism towards SDSU because I live near there and I have been on campus multiple times. I do believe that SDSU should maybe upgrade their buildings, but that’s my opinion. With SDSU, they are more known for education majors, engineering, and nursing. With Cal State LA, it’s more of business, communication, and psychology. When my class came for a schedule tour, we got there and there was some scheduling conflicts. The people were able to fix it, but instead of an hour tour, we got 30 mins, so there was just a lot of pointing around. The parts we were able to see, it was okay. They highlighted about certain majors, such as forensic science, and the people were very nice. I personally don’t like it cuz it just didn’t click for me, I didn’t feel like it was a good suit for me and my major. It almost has a bit of rustic feel with all the bricks. The buildings are very nice, almost like new. Academic wise, it is less competitive than SDSU, with a 68% acceptance rate compared to SDSU’s 34%.
I really strongly believe that if you are interested in a school to go schedule a tour or to see if they have a virtual tour to get a feel of the campus.
@nm2017: I seriously doubt that that person did get accepted to SDSU back in December with an EIigiblity index of 3310? I have followed the SDSU decision threads for 5 years now and the lowest EI that I have seen from accepted students is a 3900 which was a local in-state applicant that was involved in one of the priority programs. Being OOS gives some applicants an advantage in being full pay, but either that person is pulling your leg or did not give you their true stats.
Thank you all. We toured SDSU but not Cal State L.A. He applied there as a safety school. If SDSU does not pull through he will prob decide more towards UCR or Cal Lutheran. We are waiting for financial awards from LMU. My D graduates from there in May. I wish we would have gone back yesterday to SDSU but it was so hard to think of taking off work for a school that we do not have any idea if he was accepted or not because we had already done the official tour already. I really appreciate your input because this is such a trying process. We want what is best for our kids but have no idea what that actually is!
Is there a chance SDSU comes out tomorrow?
