@gumbymom it looks like you are looking at the admitted student profile, while AMCdad was using the actual enrolled student stats from the Common Data Set.
@AMCdad: If an applicant wants to know their chances at any school, they need to look at the admitted stats vs enrolled stats which are usually slightly lower. The CDS has great information but does not always give the full picture.
@amsunshine and @Gumbymom , of course you are correct. I see how my post is moderately misleading. Thank you both for pointing out the need for the clarification.
Yeah, they must be doing something different with OOS admissions this year. I did not expect to hear until March, but I was admitted yesterday. I am super excited because I really love SDSU. Just in case anyone was wondering I was admitted as a PRE - INTERNATIONAL SECURITY AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION major. My stats were a 1210 SAT and a 3.91 GPA on my SDSU app. Like I said I am out of state from New England. I don’t know if that helps anyone.
I applied to SDSU for a major that I have to audition for and want to change. Is there any way to change it now?
@Cjhastings322: You want to change your major or change your audition? Probably too late to change your major but you could always contact admissions to find out for sure. Changing the audition, contact the department.
Hello!
So I got waitlisted at CSULB and I’m now waiting on SDSU and SLO. What are my chances for those schools since I got waitlisted at CSULB?
Cal state gpa: 3.69
Sat: 1050 (horrible I know)
6 AP classes: APUSH, AP PSYCH, AP GOV, AP ENVIRONMENTAL, AP SPANISH 4 & AP SPANISH 5
2 ROP classes: Medical Core and Medical Hospital Careers
I’m female & Cuban (first generation)
Does SDSU select more of a variety of people? I saw a YouTube video of a girl explaining how she got into SDSU with an overall gpa of a 3.6 with an SAT score of 1000 (only took 3 APs) and majoring in political science. She got in last year. That gives me some hope but I keep seeing people with very high scores and gpa getting waitlisted/denied. I’m so scared!!! Please let me know what you guys think!
@ego2020: All campuses give local (in-service area) applicants priority so the above referenced student may have been local. If you are not local then your chances are not great. Female/Cuban does not give you an extra bump, but being First generation can help. Are you local to SDSU or SLO?
Both campuses are impacted for all majors so they have more qualified applicants than spots available.
I would say both schools are Reach schools based on your stats since SDSU admits by CSU GPA and Test scores only. Average CSU GPA for SDSU last year was 3.97 and SAT was 1283.
For SLO, they consider 9-11th grades in their GPA calculation, test scores, HS course rigor (bonus points beyond the minimum a-g courses) and hours for
EC’s. Did you calculate your MCA score? https://mca.netlify.com/
Intended major for SLO and SDSU? Have you looked up last year’s Freshman profile for both schools to see how you compare?
Do you have any safety schools? Did you apply to any non-impacted campuses? What is your local CSU?
I live in the southern part of Orange County (Laguna beach area) so I don’t think I’m very local. But my MCA score for slo was 3999 which seems really low compared to others from another website who had well over 4500+. I know my EI for SDSU is 4002 which is also really low. I applied to a lot of safeties. I got in already 6 out of state schools but my parents and I have already decided that it would be best to go in state since tuition is so much out of state. I’ve literally been praying everyday that I get into SDSU. I’m so scared ughhh, I get no sleep over this haha. I want to major in biochem, what is the percentage of acceptance rates for that major? I know all sciences are impacted but all are different in acceptance percentages. Is biochem considered one of the “easier” majors to go in since mostly people do nursing or biology for pre med?
also isn’t the EI different for each major? Like how nursing majors need above a 4500? What would be for biochem?
@ego2020: Each major has a different EI but SDSU does not publish this information so I like to use the overall campus GPA and test scores for a target EI which was 4459 last year.
You are not a local applicant so your chances are not great. Biochem had around a 35% acceptance rate last year while the overall campus had around a 33% acceptance rate.
SDSU will be a Reach based on your EI but you never know.
For SLO, under a 4200 MCA will also make it a Reach school.
Since you already have several acceptances in hand, then you are in great shape. Just remember, where you go for Undergrad will not define you, it is what you do with the opportunities that you are given that make you successful.
Best of luck.
I have an EI of 4,664. I am applying to SDSU for nursing and I am still waiting for their response. I have been accepted for pre-nursing at CSULA, CSULB, and CSUSM.
@kuyanoah When my D applied to the nursing program a couple years back she didn’t get her acceptance until March 19. So there may be some more waiting to do for this year’s applicants.
Here is a link to freshman profile stats for nursing over the years:

Best of luck!
Wondering if anyone has heard about Weber Honors admissions? Noticed last year they started rolling out around mid-February.
@kuyanoah Hey I’m in the same boat! I also applied to nursing with an EI around 4900. Waiting for admission decisions is the most stressful part! ?
Can anyone with experience speak to the housing situation at SDSU? I know they require students to live on campus for 2 years. Do they have enough rooms available to carry this out? I have a friend with a kid in his 2nd year there and he got lucky with his situation but apparently, it leaves much to be desired. Housing is a big part of the decision, thank you for any input!
@Pepper50 I have a sophomore son at SDSU and another who has been accepted for the fall. This is the first year that sophomores are required to live on campus, so I think/hope they are still working out the kinks in the system. They seem to have enough rooms, but I feel they should do a better job of setting expectations for the students. After their freshman year they were all expecting to move into on-campus apartments, with kitchens/living rooms, etc. And that just was not possible as they did not have enough apartments. Many students had to move back into dorms with meal plans while many others were able to get apartments, but they were stuck with 11 month leases while they were only going to be there for 9.5 months. No one wants to pay for a couple of months rent while your student is home for the summer! Lots of unhappy kids and parents when this all was being sorted out last spring. My son is in an old on-campus apartment with a kitchen and a 9 month lease, so we’re happy. The whole process of determining how the rooms were assigned/claimed was also very disorganized last year. I hope that this year is better than last was, but from the sounds of things on the SDSU Parents FB page, it still have some work to be done to get it organized! But SDSU is an amazing school, though as an alumni I am probably biased!
@collegemom2bee thank you so much for your response. I too was hoping they would be more organized by now. My daughter was also accepted in December and is seriously considering SDSU. When we go to the open house thing in March I am going to try to get a better feel for the housing situation. In her last year of college, my older daughter had to rent an off-campus apartment in Westwood for 12 months while attending school for 9.5 months. So that was fun! LOL The landlords are making a killing on students.
My sophomore D has lived off campus this year in an area closer to campus than some on campus housing. She is considered a local service student and on-campus housing is optional for her. Housing options must have been limited last year when she was looking for on-campus options for her 2nd year because the school moved the local service kids (notified in July) to a lower priority for housing to make sure all out of area kids (notified in May) got on-campus housing.
Hopefully the school has figured that out. But keep that in mind if your kid is trying to find a place with a group of students if any are in the local service.
@Banker1 that’s good to know. We’re in Orange County, so not local service. At least they are trying to accommodate everyone
