SDSU Freshman Class of 2028 Waitlist and Appeals Discussion

Are there numbers on how often appeals are successful?

I do not have any numbers for appeals but usually very low for any school.

Got waitlisted on 3/26 for general business. Was wondering when I should expect to know if I get pulled off the waitlist? The portal stated the waitlist decisions would be given in June, could I expect them any sooner? The last day to accept the waitlist offer is May 15 this year, so perhaps after that?

Normally you should expect to hear after the May 15 SIR deadline since SDSU needs to determine if there spots available.

Wondering if this counts as grounds for an appeal. I was kicked out of my house within the timeframe of the application process. If I make this claim and appeal, what’s the likelihood my appeal would be granted?

Sorry to hear about your situation and hope you are safe.

Can you show that being kicked out of the house affected your academic performance in HS? How did this situation affect you during the application process?

Since SDSU only considers 9-11th grades and not Senior year grades for admission purposes, you would have to show how any family issues prior to this situation would have affected you and that you are a much academically stronger student than what was reported on your CSU application.

I called admissions and they told me to appeal. the guy also said it was basically a soft rejection, he wasn’t nice about it.

Decision: Waitlisted on 4/12
(Graduate program)
MPA
International student

Question:
After a long wait I finally got waitlisted! Not what I expected unfortunately! Is it that as a graduate program my chances of getting off the list higher then freshman? What my chances getting off the list?

Wish you all the best!

It might be more appropriate to post in the Graduate forum. Graduate School - College Confidential Forums

No one except admissions will know the chances of getting off the waitlist for Freshman, Transfer and Graduate students.

My son texted me that “apparently [he] was rejected from the SDSU waitlist”? I can’t get more from him now, since he’s at school; he simply said he received an email
 Is that something that happens?

Yes, waitlisted students will be denied once the enrollment target is met. That said, it is still early and the SIR deadline has not passed so maybe there is a misunderstanding or miscommunication?

Thanks, I wondered if maybe the target was met, but I will wait and see what the email says when he gets home.

do you have an update? was he actually rejected from the waitlist? or was it an error

It was him not reading the email carefully. They were suggesting other CSU campuses he might consider/apply to, not telling him he was removed from the SDSU waitlist. (“Redirection.”)

Thank you for the update. Best of luck to him.

this is interesting, as I didn’t receive this. best of luck to your son.

Have you been admitted to another CSU? If a student is not admitted to their choice CSU’s, they will be offered Redirection. Similar to the UC ELC program.

How does waitlist work if you are Undeclared. Does it matter? And when will we find out?

Waitlist works for all majors and they will admit from the waitlist when they do not meet enrollment targets.

Last year they started admitting in May 8 (SIR date May 1) so with the extended SIR deadline probably no sooner than late May.

In 2022, they admitted no students from the waitlist.

I got into my other csu’s besides cal poly.
