Search on for missing UVa student

They probably have his DNA if they took stuff out of his apartment.

If that is the case, they should be analyzing it right now. I don’t know if a routine search would include collecting things that might have DNA (toothbrush, hairbrush, etc?), and since they don’t have any associated with the Graham disappearance, it might not have been on their minds. They might have been looking for DNA sources from Hannah, and not so much from Matthews.

Its probably a long shot, but you have a disappeared girl, the guy who was with her last, a murder/rape case from several years ago in the same area, and a rape DNA link from much earlier with a sketch that must be the same person who committed the Harrington murder, and the sketch looks reasonably similar to the guy last seen with the currently missing girl. If I were a judge, I’d certainly give a green light for DNA collection. Not sure on what the rules are for that.

EDIT: apparently VA allows for involuntary DNA collection.http://www.councilforresponsiblegenetics.org/pageDocuments/I6W7Q3D7RM.pdf

I actually don’t think the sketch looks like Matthew at all. The sketch was from the 2005 Fairfax rape and Matthew would have only been 23 years old at the time. The guy in the sketch looks older. Also, Matthew is tall and very heavy, a pretty distinctive combo. And I haven’t seen any description of the guy in the sketch being described by the Fairfax victim as a noticeably big person(although I could have missed that).

Matthew changed his profile picture on Facebook on Saturday, the day he went to the police. He removed his picture and the screen is now all black where a person’s pictures would normally be.

Cops are back at the apartment complex this morning.

May help if some of your cite your sources.

Yes, it might help, since it appears that the original sketch was “revised” some years after the fact. The revised one looks less like Matthew than the original one, IMO. But the original one looks similar enough to me to make me really want to see a DNA match done. Maybe it will be nothing, but common sense demands that it be done.

Here’s a link to the story with the original one (sketch).

I just hope the police are smart enough to also pursue other leads that don’t involve JM until they have more evidence.

http://www.nbc29.com/story/26593843/man-seen-with-missing-uva-student-hannah-graham-being-sought

The police are working with the FBI on this case. There is no reason to think they are incompetents.

Agree, Flossy. I’m sure they are continuing to pursue all leads and are leaving no stone unturned.

They do have five unsolved murders of young women along the Route 29 corridor over the past five years. That doesn’t exactly instill confidence. If I were a parent of a student in the area I would be freaking out.

Here, anyone who hasn’t can see what Longo said. It’s worth the time to hear this straight from the officials. Roughly midway, he describes the car speeding off. There are several videos on this page, incl the VA DEM guy, describing search efforts, and the later press Q&A. http://wtvr.com/2014/09/21/arrest-warrant-issued-for-jesse-matthew-in-hannah-graham-mystery/

This is the big criminal record?

Apparently he isn’t a great driver. Or perhaps he is simply perpetually guilty of DWB. I admit that I have become highly skeptical of police action in such matters.

It will be very interesting to see what the DNA results have to say.

http://wtvr.com/2014/09/22/jesse-leroy-matthew-wanted-poster/

Btw, there are thousands of unsolved murder cases in the US every year. It’s still possible this girl is alive somewhere, too. Who said he had a big criminal record? The cops said they had prior contacts with him. That’s all.

Maybe dadx uncovered some crimes that the reporter did not.

Flossy, five murders of young women in a relatively small area could be related or unrelated. They’d be crazy not to look for similarities, and I am sure they are.

As we have discussed ad nauseum in other threads, most black men have had prior contact with the police.

Well, I’m sure they are, too. He had 22 prior arrests mostly traffic related but a couple of assaults. Right now, he’s a fugitive. Also, they took more stuff out of the now empty apartment. The roommates moved out…

Flossy, where did you get this information about assaults?

The arrest record was floating around Twitter this morning. If I can find it I’ll try to link it. But, no guarantees.

What I found concerning was that an attorney appearing on CNN this afternoon said that the area around Charlottesville is known for sex trafficking. I had not head this before. This could be a possible motive.

He has a misdemeanor assault, attempted larceny, and a trespass after forbidden with the complainant being a woman, it appears, but no elaboration about the circumstances. There is not much description, so maybe these things are not what they seem to be, but he’s obviously known to the police.

The record is under the Va court record system. The assault and attempted larceny complaint appears to come from a Charlottesville lawyer.

I don’t think he’s going to walk back into the police station again, and I think the police know it.
