Search on for missing UVa student

Some of you will work yourselves up into a lather. These are sad cases and rarely solved at our own kitchen tables, nor by psychics.

“As for the other part of it, if you don’t think that young black men–including completely law-abiding ones–are far more likely to have contact with the police and amass traffic tickets than young white men…I have a bridge to sell you.”

No, I know that’s true. But, perhaps irrelevant. He, black, white, or purple with dreadlocks or cornrows or braids or whatever was the last person seen with her and he, Jesse Mathew, is currently on the run.from law enforcement. That is what I find significant. Not, his race. If they end up with nothing then they have a problem, though. But, h e has the advantage of knowing exactly what happened.

My speculation is that they have county and FBI (and maybe DEM and others) all over the county back roads and trails, looking for signs of recent activity. The former, especially, know that turf. I suspect they use fire road inspectors and utility line check-men, on their regular routes. But it will be slow going. They would prioritize. This isn’t them hanging around the donuts, waiting for someone to suggest they look for links to other crimes. But nor is it as simple as tv.

If we get to speculate now, I don’t think they really care too much where he is and are much more interested in getting the test results they need to make their case, whatever it is. Currently, he’s running on a traffic warrant.

You get to speculate but you know I hate calling something a fact just because “I think it, so it must be true.” Or you read it in some source that may have made an error or have an angle to push. YMMV.

Legally, the traffic warrant is a boon. Now they’re not hounding this guy whose grandmother says he’s a good kid. I have yet to see a news reporter state he/she saw the car speeding away from anywhere. Looks like the poster says his sister’s 1997 light blue Nissan Sentra and the tag number.

All criminals grandmothers say ‘he was a good boy’. All criminals neighbors say ‘he seemed so normal, just a regular guy’. Another couple of black serial killers were John Mohammed, the DC area sniper and his Jamaican buddy (whose name I forgot). Statistics are really irrelevant to any individual case anyway.

I read on another site that no forensics were going to be released today. Hopefully, they got something and want to follow it up before telling the public.

I am on edge in this case since D goes to UVa.

I feel for all of you with kids there or ties to the school or town. I have friends working at the U or downtown. I worked at a pub near campus and we had a tragedy too close to this tale. I wanted D1 to go there. Best wishes.

Lee Boyd Malvo was the other DC sniper. Their victims were of different races and ethnicities. Boy, does that bring back unpleasant memories–one of the victims was shot a few blocks from where I worked.

John Muhammad was not the FBI archetype serial killer. He was a mean SOB who concocted a sinister, maniacal and homicidal plot to seek to take revenge on his estranged wife. Shooting innocent people didn’t make sense vis-à-vis his domestic problems, but like I said, he was a madman.

I am thinking back to the OJ Police Chase in 94. If Matthew was truly innocent- I sincerely doubt he would be on the lam. If I was in his shoes and innocent I would be doing everything I could to cooperate with the investigation. The fact that he has been on the run makes me think he knows what happened.

There will be a press conference at 7pm according to NBC29.

My undergrad school had a big scandal when I was there - turned out that they assumed Pinkerton, their security guard company, was running background checks and wouldn’t let anyone start work until the background check was complete. And then it turned out that they found five people who had records, and two had outstanding warrants.

All because a student complained about a “creepy security guy” (who was indeed someone with a record).

There is now a warrant out for Matthew’s arrest for abduction with intent to defile.

Charlottesville PD just held a press conference. The person of interest has been charged with abduction with intent to defile. Chief Longo appeared before the magistrate, presented evidence (which was undisclosed to the public) and a warrant was issued for Mr. Matthew’s arrest. Chief Longo stressed that they continue to search for Hannah.

NBC News is reporting Matthew was a part-time volunteer with a football program at a Charlottesville private school. The Covenant School sent out a letter to parents letting them know Matthew will “no longer be working” with the program.

What evidence did the police talk about in the press conf?

There was no discussion of any evidence at the press conference. The public has no need to know. It was sufficient for a warrant to be issued.

The investigation is ongoing. The crime lab is still testing samples. This police department is doing an awesome job.

What makes you think that, Flossy? How can you say until Hannah’s disappearance is solved?

They know a lot more than they are telling the public. It’s actually very obvious, but I don’t know how to prove it to you, Sally. And, I don’t have the time to try right now. So, we all will just have to wait and see.
