How’d she get her article written and sent to the Dallas News?

Me too. How come Spenser’s fiancee can quarantine at home, but Hickox is being treated like a criminal?

I don’t know, jym. Maybe on a phone. does that negate her story.

Who said anything about negating her story, garland? I completely believe it. Just wondering how she wrote it if its has been reported above that she has no electronics (computer, etc) or internet.

Another example of developing a protocol as one goes along. Not surprising that the first few will have screw ups. I feel really badly for this selfless nurse. I was also reported that she was in the air when the quarantine decision was made, so she had no idea when she landed what was going to happen.

Sorry, jumped the gun there, jym! :)

“Another example of developing a protocol as one goes along.”

That is because there is never any time to develop protocols/policies as everything is always a reaction to the latest headlines in the 24 hour news cycle. And what happens is that an agency has to scramble to do whatever the new initiative is - dropping whatever they were doing for the last crisis created initiative (which then is completely forgotten about as agencies pull people & resources from that.) There is literally no time to thoughtfully develop policy anymore.

Agencies are also often told to do things immediately (and I mean that literally) which are impossible to do (or impossible to do given personnel & resource limitations.)

Glad we cleared that up, garland.
Now also of concern- if Bentley, Nina Pham’s Cavalier, has been declared ebola free, why is she still not permitted to see him? So what if the “official” quarantine is up Nov 1? He is ebola free and she is immune. Why cant she at least see him? Thats just mean spirited.http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/dallas-nurse-survived-ebola-wait-dog-26454056 see him?
This is hogwash. The dog isnt going to get the runs or kick up a fever because he sees his owner. Or at the very least, let her see.him through a 1 way mirror or something. This is cruel to keep them apart for another week.

OK- found it. No computer but some, albeit poor, cellphone reception.

The nurse at the airport story does not surprise me – a lot of the TSA types are like this. If they are going to enforce quarantines they absolutely need to get on the ball. Where is our new Ebola czar?

What group do we get to round up next?

What’s even more ridiculous is that we have a qualified surgeon general candidate whose nomination has been held up for a year because legislators are held hostage by a group whose acronym starts with N and ends in A. I still think we need the czar-type person to coordinate everything–but having a trusted medical authority to calm people’s irrational fears would go a long way right now.

So, while we are dancing around politics, maybe we should encourage NY and NJ to go back to arguing who has juristiction over Ellis Island (hint- its federally controlled)

^ and end their bromance? Not a chance.

Now Florida has joined the 21 day mandatory quarantine dance.

^ Sigh. It’s like a scene from Dumb & Dumber.

Here is Fauci on the subject:

The plasma transfusions are also experimental. We don’t know for sure if that is what is working or if it is immediate, aggressive fluid/electrolyte replacement, a combination of both, etc.

“New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, meanwhile, acknowledged on Saturday that the policy might be hard to enforce, according to the New York Daily News.Cuomo said officials had never considered whether people refusing to go along with the order could face prosecution or arrest, adding “It’s nothing that we’ve discussed, no,” the newspaper said.”

<a href=“Nurse Discharged From Ebola Quarantine in New Jersey – NBC New York”>Nurse Discharged From Ebola Quarantine in New Jersey – NBC New York;

This is just another example of them doing things without any thought process behind it. And they simply never want to hear that what they propose is unrealistic.

And by “officials” he mean himself & Christie.

Emilybee, great links and posts.

Totally off topic, but curious; When you (any of you) open the link posted in # 2476, what ad do you see in the first box on the right below the first few paragraphs?
