We saw Venom 3. Thought it was pretty awesome.
We saw Heretic last night starting Hugh Grant. Basic plot is two young Mormon women are reaching out door to door to people who said they are interested in the church of Latter Day Saints. Hugh Grant is one of those people. It’s psychological thriller/horror. Very interesting and we enjoyed it. A few plot twists and scares. I interpreted the ending much differently than my H.
Upside of Anger
Although we saw it some 20 years ago, really good film. I only mentioned it because it showed up on HBO schedule.
Posting a warning… we tried to watch the documentary about the infamous Stanford prison experiment on Disney Plus and just had to turn it off! Not because of the subject matter… because the sound mixing was horrendous! The background music overwhelmed the voices of the interviewees completely! Mr. B tried to monkey around with the sound on our TV and gave up. Do not recommend!
Mr. did a quick search and found a Reddit thread where folks were complaining about how horrible the sound was in this video.
This documentary deserves a Razzie for sound mixing!!
As big a hit as Oppenheimer was last year, we had trouble enjoying it due to Nolan’s horrendous sound mixing—kids told us that’s apparently his thing. Too loud than it needed to be at times, conflicting dialogue and background noise, etc.
It detracted from ‘enjoying’ the movie.
DH and I are going to see “A Real Pain” this afternoon. It’s about two Jewish cousins who travel to Poland in memory of their grandmother who died. Since we’re going to Poland next May, I’m looking forward to it. It sounds heavy and funny at the same time. The only music in it is Chopin, my favorite composer (I told my son we have to go to the Chopin Museum in Warsaw!).
horror flick with an over the top last 20 minutes. think carrie, the fly, pulp fiction homage
cartel gender bender musical
This is on my list. I hope it’s good!
I forgot that DH had a meeting, so we will have to go to the movie later in the week.
The Wild Robot
A film for the whole family
Parents will tear up when the gosling leaves the … Hut and kids of various ages will recognize toddler, primary school, and middle/HS school behavior.
Some scenes of peril but resolved quickly (okay I jumped when Roz aka Wild robot discovered why the raccoon ran away from the cave even though I could guess what animal lived there … so a kid 6-8 might find it too scary.)
The first part of the film has absolutely GORGEOUS images of nature.
Highly recommend if you have kids/grandkids over for Thanksgiving (8+?)
DH and I both liked “A Real Pain.” If you go, google it to see what parts of the story are from Jesse Eisenberg’s background, it’s interesting!
It was fun seeing some of the places we will be in May when we visit. The movie explores a little how weird it is to go on a tour of concentration camps. Eisenberg said the movie plot fell together for him when an ad banner popped up on his screen - “Auschwitz tours (with lunch).” I’d already been thinking about that subject!
The entire score is piano music by Chopin, which I played a lot of growing up. Parts of the movie were pretty heavy, though. Don’t expect all light and fluffy.
It’s not a perfect movie, but I think worth seeing.
Anyone seen wicked yet? I’d give it a 4.5 out if 5. I thought it was a little long but visually stunning.
I thought Wicked was fantastic!
@sly123 have you seen the play?
Oh yeh, I’ve seen the play 5 times. The movie adaptation tied up some lose ends and was great. I just wish it was shorter and we didn’t have to wait so long for part 2.
Saw Gladiator 2 over the weekend, and it was a bit disappointing. Good action, but plot was too contrived. Roman history post Marcus Aurelius has plenty of intrigue and turmoil that could have been used.
Not a big movie theater customer since Covid and I miss seeing all the previews of upcoming films. As the holiday movie season begins with Wicked and Gladiator II, here’s a recount of new movies coming to a theater near you.
The 19 movies everyone will be talking about this holiday season
“Wicked” and “Gladiator II” are just the start of a packed slate of big-screen releases.

Have you seen it?
I haven’t seen Lonely Planet (Netflix) mentioned on the thread yet. I thought it was good, and recommend it. Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth have great onscreen chemistry, and play their parts well. The plot is unique, also, although a couple of the twists could have been done better, IMO.
I wonder if the movie would appeal to males and females equally. It taps into common thoughts that 20-year-old males have of older women, but the movie captures this later in life when such a relationship is more socially acceptable (mid-30’s guy with late-50’s woman).
After I read it’s just part 1, I’m thinking I might wait until next year. Do you think it’s worth seeing it now? I hate cliffhangers where I have to wait a year. Same with series…hate that year wait.
