Seen Any Good Movies Lately?

:+1:

Going to see it today!

Brush up on your romance languages. Impressive that Ralph Fiennes moved so fluently through Latin, Italian and Spanish.

I saw Conclave and agree that the acting was fantastic.

Phenomenal acting. If this movie doesn’t get a few Oscar nods, I would be disappointed. Cinematography was great, too. Highly recommend Conclave.

I thought the other thing it showcased is how women are conditioned to not trust their instincts, such as the woman who left her friend on the beach. I don’t want to say more lest I spoil some of it for others.

I watched the documentary Zurawski v Texas this weekend. Depressing, but I knew it would be going in. What I didn’t realize is that Hillary and Chelsea Clinton were executive producers on the film. I knew that they were involved in some film, just didn’t know it was this one.

Thank you for noting which movie you saw. So often we have to scroll back to see what movie “it” is. That review could apply to more than one of the movies currently being discussed.

I just watched “Daddio” on Netflix. It’s like a play, just a conversation between a cabbie (Sean Penn) and his passenger (Dakota Johnson) in NYC. I thought it was well-done.

I just got another link to a free online availability to see Zurawski v Texas. I’ll post it here, but if this gets deleted, msg me and I’ll PM it to you.

Highly recommend Endurance (available on Disney Plus).

Saw Conclave today. Not a big fan (and I’ll watch Ralph Fiennes do just about anything). I felt like the score did all the heavy lifting. Stanley Tucci’s voice sounded flat and the same as it does in every single movie he’s in. The movie felt unduly political and not in a subtle way (or maybe my nerves are raw after recent events). I would have like to seen Isabelle Rossellini more. The “twist” at the end felt inorganic and forced. It patronized the audience. But I can see clips from it being used on SNL or the Oscars opening comments.

We just watched The Witch starring Anya Taylor Joy about a Puritan family in 1630’s New England. The family is banished from their settlement due to a religious dispute and build a home and farm at the edge of some gnarly woods!
I enjoyed it. If you’re a fan of fairytales and dark tales, you’ll see things and know immediately what they mean. The child actors are amazing.

“Operation Mincemeat” (on Netflix) is a great WWII story that takes place predominantly in London: two British intelligence officers hatch an outlandish scheme to trick the Nazis and alter the course of World War II. Based on a true story of deception.

It’s not dark or heavy, and the cast is terrific (Colin Firth, Kelly Macdonald, Matthew Macfadyen, Penelope Wilton, Johnny Flynn and Jason Isaacs…)

Just watched the movie. Great movie- well acted and written- the true story really makes it fascinating.

I just returned from seeing Blitz. I liked it though it was very loud. The kid was great. I have to look up some history now because I had never heard before that at the beginning of the Blitz the Underground was not available for shelter. The gates were closed and locked even as bombs were falling.

Enjoyed watching “My Old Ass” on Prime. The young man who played the love interest was terrific.

Watched it. Good acting and story that started a discussion at home in a good way.

H and I watched My Old Ass this past Friday night and also enjoyed it.

I did, too, but found the very end a bit abrupt. I liked the “,who has lessons for whom” idea. The young actress was excellent!
