I really liked A Real Pain. The relationship between the 2 leads was so well done. It captured both the fondness for each other as well as how their “management” of their own damage had turned them into such different people and their bafflement of each other. All with a dose of humor. I wouldn’t say it was amazing, but it’s entertaining and thoughtful.

And yes, the Chopin soundtrack is a delight!

Just watched My Old Ass on Amazon Prime. Wow, what a sweet and delightful movie. Especially based on the title I thought it might be really crass but it was not. It’s about an 18 year old young woman about to leave for college who meets her middle aged self ( from an experiment with drugs) . The fantasy/ gimmick elements really aren’t important. It’s about coming of age, family and love. The scenes with her mother about the feelings of a parent whose kid is about to go to college are so sweet/sad, they may bring many a CC’er to tears. Highly highly recommend!

Thanks for sharing this! I’m a huge Aubrey Plaza fan

I agree, it was sweet and so well done.
Aubrey Plaza really has a small role (although a really big place in the plot). The young actress carries the whole film on her shoulders. I loved how she makes you feel how “new” and exciting (or bo-ring) everything is to her character.
I liked the 2 reversals from typical “coming of age” moments -
Minor spoiler
The “how can I like that person” moment and the “what you would teach your young self” moment.

Cynthia Erivo is amazing - both her singing and acting. I saw “Wicked” yesterday with D and a few of her friends. I loved the entire show.

We are no longer getting MAX, but I might have to talk with H about that. I think we would both love this movie.

Would the film be interesting (and easy to follow) if you have NOT seen the musical?

Not to me, but I seem to be an outlier.

I saw this in the theater and came out an emotional wreck. It was a wonderful movie, but I was no prepared!

It would fall together during the second film (as it did during the second half of the musical), so you might want to wait until that one releases or is due to - I assume they’ll re-release part 1 just before.

It helps to know (no spoilers) that Wicked is the PRE-story of The Wizard of Oz.

My husband and I really enjoyed it as well! The small doses of humor were perfectly placed, I thought. And it was only about 90 minutes, which I appreciated.

Per our daughter’s suggestion,we watched Inside Out and enjoyed it.

There is now a sequel available, but she agreed to re-watch the original since we had not seen it. There was a sweet sentimental scene where as she had expected I got a bit teary. Not as terrific as Toy Story 3, but it has some of the same vibe. Plus a fun storyline with the emotion controlling inside “characters”

A screenwriting friend said it was a 6.5 vs 9 for the original because it lacked an emotional core that would have made it more riveting.

I think so, yes. I hadn’t seen the musical prior to seeing the movie and I didn’t have an issue following the story.

I saw Wicked this week too. Hadn’t seen the stage musical and didn’t know the story and had no difficulty following it - looking forward to Part 2 (also looking forward to rewatching Part 1 in preparation!!)

That’s disappointing to hear. I’m going to see it this week and what I loved about the original Gladiator was the emotional aspect.

We watched Coda the other night. Was from a few years ago, but was a lovely movie, although somewhat predictable. Perfect for the end of Thanksgiving weekend.

It was a bit of a tearjerker, but in a good way. Also really enjoyed it. Added plus was that my brother lives in Gloucester so lots of familiar locations.

I thought Gladiator 2 was entertaining - better than I expected. Paul Mescal is a wonderful actor IMO. If you go in comparing it to Gladiator, obviously you’ll be disappointed.
