I’m not into musical theater, and I loved it
I think I am way in the minority. I like musicals in general but for me to like a movie they need to make me care about the characters and the story. Elphaba and the goat were the only ones that made me care but not really that much. I absolutely could not stand Galinda. The audience clapped at the end so chances are you will like it.
You couldn’t stand the character as it was written or you couldn’t stand Ariana Grande’s portrayal of Galinda?
In my ignorance I didn’t know if was Ariana Grande until you just mentioned her. I just remember thinking, whoever this is, I am not interested in seeing anything else she does. So I guess to answer your question it was more her portrayal. If her purpose was to be an irritant then she did a great job.
She is supposed to be a little unlikable. In wicked the wicked witch is actually the good witch, the good witch is the bad witch.
Actually, I probably won’t! I am not a Ariana Grande fan.
Yes! That was apparently the purpose. Haven’t seen the movie yet but looking forward to. Loved the musical - we got last minute tickets dirt cheap not knowing what to expect and sat in the front row of a full theater!
Just watched My Old Ass on Netflix (I believe Colorado_mom had recommended). Sooo good. 18 year old girl meets 39 year old version of herself. Just loved it.
lots of golden globe noms
despite many reviews but the animals cgi was disappointing
Saw Wicked finally- I liked it more than I expected! Cynthia Erivo blew me away, Ariana was just ok. It left me very interested in seeing part 2.
I never saw the musical, but read the book years ago. Similarities between the book s d the movie are basically zero.
The movie was not based on the book. It was based on Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman’s stage adaptation of the book.
A piece of trivia - both Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman had small cameos in the movie.
Wow, one other person who felt the same way I did. I kept looking at my watch…
Then I’m out. I’m not a big fan of musicals and was only planning to see it because I liked the book which I read a long time ago. I was thinking I’d re-read it before watching. Guess I’ll pass or wait for it to stream so I don’t waste time or money.
There’s a book?!?
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire.
We finally got to see Speak No Evil on Peacock last night. Psychological thriller. I thought previews made it look super scary and violent. Not really at all until a little at the end. It was really good! And I preferred watching it at home when we could all shout at all of the bad parenting mistakes. And one was just a dud and dead weight to the group, we were all like COME ON!!! A couple of interesting twists at the end. Highly recommend!
Found a Hallmark movie called “A Biltmore Christmas” and watched it only because it had fabulous shots of the mansion. Several years ago, we drove all the way to Asheville and of course this is what we wanted to see. Husband came down with some mysterious bug that put him in the bed! We didn’t get to go. LOL. I didn’t want to leave him. We did go to the ER because I was afraid it was Lime disease. It wasn’t but he sure was down and out. So, looping back, this was interesting to me to see as much as I could in a movie!
I’ve been to Biltmore many times as I live 2 hours away. It’s absolutely beautiful at Christmas. I hope you get to visit. I’m not a Hallmark movies person but I watched and enjoyed A Biltmore Christmas. I thought it was cute and it was fun to recognize all the places they filmed in the house and on the grounds.
Watched Six Triple Eight (Netflix) – a nice story and a decent watch but H and I felt the movie could have been better if the script had been tightened up a bit.
We also saw Carry On (also Netflix).and thought it was pretty good as well.
