Seen Any Good Movies Lately?

We’ve been taking about Flow and how the animals in that movie were not completely humanized but at the same time they exhibited some human like behavior. Where have we have seen this? Aha! A lightbulb moment! Benji the hunted! The story of a celebrity dog lost on the Oregon coast and how the dog saved a litter of orphan mountain lion cubs. So we tuned to Disney Plus and watched it. Beautiful PNW forest scenery. No dialogue after the first scene. And the little puma kittens are beyond adorable! Our tortie was glued to the screen, too!

I read something over the weekend that said adoptions were up for black kitties after the movie Flow. This definitely warmed my heart.

I hope that is true! Black kitties are awesome.

My black kitty Daisy is an amazing cat. She is the first black cat I have ever had. No reason why we hadn’t previously got a black cat, but she is so loving, vocal and very smart!

Our tortie was adopted by little kid because she looked completely black, and kid thought that black kitties had poor chances of being adopted. Best cat ever! She started developing tiny patches of orange when she turned 3! And she is our movie buff. Loves movies with animals… she prefers live action and would skip animation but watched Flow!

This artwork at the Japanese Friendship Garden made me think of Flow.

With both of my teams out of March Madness, I took advantage of the Target Circle offer for 3 months of free Peacock and watched the new Bridget Jones movie last night. I enjoyed it, especially the small parts with Emma Thompson & Colin Firth. This afternoon has been kind of gloomy, so I watched The Life List on Netflix. I liked it so much, but that didn’t surprise me because I adore most everything Connie Britton does. It was a good afternoon for a sweet romance that requires tissues, though it does deliver a satisfying ending.

Has anyone seen “The Friend”? I love Bill Murry and Naomi Watts but it seems kind of manipulative and sappy.

Does anyone watch the TCM channel on cable? I love the fact there are no ads at all. I recently learned that you can get the TCM app and watch anything from their library at any time. With no ads! I’m already paying for cable so this is a great deal IMO. Vs all the streamers who now have ads (unless you pay even more for no ads).

I’m glad overall you liked it. I like movies that feel authentic and give me a glimpse into a world I was not familiar with (without feeling fake or too Hollywood). I really rooted for her.

We enjoyed this Netflix movie last night. Nice to have a good mystery where there are no brutal murders involved. Different role for Olivia Coleman - thought she did a great job.

I saw that in the theater when it came out. Sad to say I fingered the “perp” in the first ten minutes, but loved watching Jessie Buckley. I couldn’t stop seeing Coleman as the queen.

I thought it was great. But Olivia Coleman can do no wrong.

If you are a fan of Lily Gladstone, this new comedy looks very promising!

Our local movie critic gave it a thumbs up. An additional plus for me is that the action takes place in Seattle (although filmed in BC).

Things I tried to watch and turned off after 10 minutes: Den of Thieves (dialogue felt so tired and cliched); Lucy; Holland (actually, 5 minutes - Nicole Kidman is now officially in Jocelyn Wildenstein land (too many fillers, Botox, surgery) plus the acting was awful.

Tuned to Disney Plus and decided to watch Mufasa Hmmm… it was just OK. I would not pay extra to watch it. My tortie cat seemed to enjoy watching CGI lions battle each on the screen.

We watched Companion last night. $6 on Amazon prime. It’s on a few other services for the same, I believe.

Sophie thatcher (young Natalie - Yellowjackets) and Jack Quaid (Huey - The Boyz) and also Harvey Guillén (Guillermo - What we do in the Shadows) and others I didn’t know

Sophie Thatcher plays an AI Companion who doesn’t know she’s not human. She and boyfriend Jack Quaid meet friends at this guy’s secluded house for a weekend getaway. Something big happens (no spoilers) and Sophie learns she’s not human and must fight to stay “alive”

It’s fun and interesting. Big thumbs up

Saw “The Amateur” today. I think it’s aiming to catch the people who liked “The Accountant” (first one). Or people who like Jason Bourne movies. Except here, the audience can’t follow along like with Jason Bourne. You’re given a set up, some clues, and you can totally see yourself putting the magazine in the toaster and turning on the gas. Here, you have NO way of anticipating that Rami Malek’s character will do what he does to thwart the villains. But still, it was a diverting way to spend NYC’s sudden heat wave.

Just watched The Life List on Netflix. I loved it. Cried. What else is new?

Trigger warning: There is an implied fatal cancer/disease diagnosis.

We enjoyed “The Life List”. It was Hallmark-ish, but with less romance and more family dynamics.
