Hello! I am a junior and I have suddenly become overcome with a wave of self-doubt. A classmate of mine is constantly talking about how smart she is and how great she is and while I typically ignore her, sometimes her words make me doubt myself Is my current high school transcript okay?
Freshman Yr:
Honors and AP Human Geography (Grades: AA Score: 4)
Sophmore Yr:
Honors, AP World History (Grades: AA Score: 3), and AP Psychology (Grades: AA Score: 4)
Junior Yr [1st Sem]:
AP Chemistry (Grades: BB)
AP Calculus AB (Grades: CC [I know - pretty bummed about this grade :(]
AP Computer Science Principles (Grades: AA)
AP Eng. Lang (Grades: BB)
AP Environmental Science (Grades: AB)
I also take dual enrollment classes.
I do lots of medical based volunteering & I am the president/founder of HOSA at my school. My unweighted is about 3.79 and my weighted GPA is around 6.0 (making me number 5 out of about 700 students).
I have wanted to be a doctor for a long time but do my current grades show I am not good enough?
You’re going to be fine! You’re a talented student (as your GPA and the rigor of your classes shows). You’re not 5th in your class for nothing! Even if you weren’t in the top 5, if you focus on doing as strongly as you possibly can, you can be proud that you put your best foot forward. I’ve found that comparing myself to others never helps. I’ll be feeling pretty good about myself and then I’ll hear a classmate talk about how he/she has a higher PSAT score or higher rank, and it’s not fun to self-doubt, but I can relate. It’s no fun to have self-doubt, but I’ve been there too and I’m sure a lot of other people have. A suggestion I’ve heard is to deliberately give yourself self-encouragement where you focus on what you’re good at on a regular basis. It should help make you feel more positive and confident in yourself over time. I hope this helps!
hi, person! seriously, your transcript is fine. don’t compare or doubt yourself ever, whether it be to people in real life or people on here. you are special and smart, and you will be fine! the only piece of advice i have to give is, although your current one is perfectly fine, to try and raise your UW GPA just a tiny bit, for it can only help in the long run.
You’re a high school junior taking college-level classes (and on top of that, college-level STEM classes) and your grades aren’t even that bad. The rigor of your schedule is something most people wouldn’t dare to challenge, and your extracurriculars seem to be very rewarding. Colleges do look a lot for strong junior year grades/test scores, but you are far from an undesirable applicant. Additionally, if you want to be a doctor, you will possibly have to retake your STEM classes anyway, and you will probably be better prepared the second time around.
Agree. Don’t let this girl cause you to doubt yourself. Do you have her transcript, SAT or ACT scores and other data that you could use to verify her allegations. Probably not so you are not forced to complete this silly review. I found that students who thought they were wonderful in high school spent too much time yammering on about how wonderful in high school even years after graduation. Boring! Be you and the best you can be. Your high school reputation dims when other interests and opportunities enter your life.
