Yes, there’s nothing wrong with that at all actually. It’s pretty impressive to take the initiative too, good for you.

Thank you! I appreciate that. So to self study, do I just need to discuss it with my g.c. at the beginning of the year?

^Not at all.

“Not at all”?

Do you mean I can just dive in all by myself?

@RLlover16

Pretty much. The only time you need to “inform somebody else what you’re doing” is when it comes to signing up for AP exams. Just tell the coordinators at your school you’ve been self-studying and wish to sign up for that particular AP exam. Everything else, you call the shots.

I got a 5 self studying. I procrastinated… All I did was read Barron’s the night before the test. It’s really that easy.

Yes! Now i know of more people who are self studying… Yeah bruh.

My guidance counselor told me that if I wanted to self-study for an AP exam, I would need to pay for my own proctor to come and administer the exam… do I HAVE to do this, or can I register with another school? Is it even allowed to take an exam at a different school than your own?

^That’s probably not true. You have to pay for the exam. At my school, someone from the guidance office proctors the exam, regardless of whether you self-studied it or not.

Also, I’m thinking about self-studying AP Psych, especially since it seems very doable.

@sardonyx827

Does your school not offer AP Psych? If it doesn’t, then your guidance couneslor may be right though I would try asking to sign up with other schools.

If your school DOES offer it, then it’d be unnecessary to pay extra for a proctor. I self-studied and just took the exam with one of the many AP Psych classes at my high school. There was no hassle and they just treated me as if I was another student.

@AznGambit17-
Sorry, I was unclear. My school does not offer AP Psych or Stats, which is why I want to self-study both for this year. Do you by any chance know how much it is to pay for your own proctor? I don’t think it is listed on the AP website.

Yeah all righty

I am thinking of self studying this year I am currently a rising sophomore. I have heard it is easy and I really need to get some AP’s what prep books do u guys recommend?

^ Same here. I’m going to be a sophomore and will self study.

I’ve heard the Barron’s book is definitely the way to go.

Is it a bad idea to self-study even though I have NO idea what AP exams are like? I mean, I’m self-studying Psych and Stats this year as a sophomore for the exams because I don’t want those on top of my AP load in junior/senior years.

I have heard that barrons is good also I think I will go with that one.

@sardonyx827 I dont think it is a bad idea in fact I think it will be good prep but idk I am on the same boat :)

Alrighty (:
And by the way, from reading a ton of posts on here, I decided the best prep books for self-studying Psych and Stats are Barron’s. I’ve heard that the Psych flashcards are nice too, but they’re unnecessary. I also reserved some psychology textbooks from my library so that I can read up a bit more in detail just to make sure I retain all the information. I’m pretty excited to study Psych. Not so much for Stats though…

^lol you shouldnt be excited. Its boring as hell. all you do is sit there and memorize stuff…it’s pretty pointless

Haha, well I like psychology, soo I hope it’ll be exciting.

I think it will be exciting I will wither being going to an online school or public school this year but I don’t know yet (yes know weird) Are you allowed to make study groups here on cc like not now but like in January
