Senior, and I went to my first dance in high school yesterday.

TOTALLY NOT WORTH THE HYPE. it was homecoming and i was so burned out from studying for 6 ap's and college stuff this year that i just wanted to forget EVERYTHING and have fun.

Didn't go to the game cause it was really rainy/muddy, so instead I went to dinner with a friend and hung out at her house before the dance. So we get there and a lot of people are like "WOW ____ iS HERE" which was cool, I didn't realize my presence was so important ;)

But it still didn't make up for a boring time. First of all, no one knows how to "dance", everyone just finds a partner or a line and the dancing is just "grinding". seriously. i've been to plenty of dances before (not in my hs though), and I love to dance, but that got BORING really quickly. Even though people told me I was a good dancer (cause i've been doing it forever), that was partly because they don't know how to do anything else =</p>

When pretty ricky's "Grind On Me" song came on, I swear it sounded like some people were going to have heart attacks. i wanted to step out for a while, take a breather or something, but one of my guy friends came behind me and wrapped his hands around my lower waist, teling me to stay. I'm not really a fan of grinding since I think it's an "excuse" for real dancing which I enjoy, but this kid really wanted to even though I kept pulling away. I looked around and some couples are really getting into it, like they're having dry sex or something. Not cool...

Afterward, i leave with my friend and there's an afterparty with alcohol, which doesn't bother me, but right before the dance ended, people are talking aobut it like they're SO excited to be able to drink something, anything, the nastiest thing even, as long as it would make them tipsy. That just seemed low in my opinion, like no one could have a good time unless alcohol was present. I was going to give it a chance though, but my friend who took me, her parents were kind of freaking out, so i just slept over at another friend's house and that was it.

I know it's a "school" dance so it probably wasn't supposed to be anything great, but i don't think i "missed out" the past 3 years, and college will be loads better. I don't know, to me, school dances just seem as a way to get into unnecessary drama fights. Is my school the only one with lame dances?

I wouldn't know, I've never been:p

lol. are you a soph, junior, senior...?

i wonder if our prom will be like that...and to think, some kids spend thousands on prom expenses...

I've never been! YAY hahaha I'm a senior. Our school has lame dances..

which is why I'm part of the ballroom dance team instead :D

What hype? It's common knowledge at my school the dance's aren't worth the time.

i like dances. i like grinding. i'm also a guy. i guess i'm not evolved.

I hate school dances. Sweaty orgy in the gym? No thanks. I did homecoming once and decided to never do it again...LOL. Although afterwards we did something completely innappropriate in heels, which was fun. But I figured if everything besides the dance was cool, why bother with the dance at all...

My friends and I are going out to a few rock clubs that night. The music will be better, at least.

(For some reason we're getting called losers for this alternative plan. Jealous much?)

I hate grinding, I've done it twice before, and it was absolutely horrific (eg. the guy's smelled, and were drenching with sweat, among other things).

im also a senior.

My HC dance is on the 14th, and my date abandoned me because we couldn't find a group and said that "it wouldn't be worth it." im very ****ed off right now.

junior year, I was going to another school's HC and i couldn't get in because i didn't have some special form (that was apparently released only hte day before). There were about a hundred people crowding the door and trying to beat up the chaporones. they had to bring police officers. ikt was bad.

the year before my date's parents were insane and took her home an hour early.

screw high school dances. im not going to prom.
seriously, people, you can find better things to do with your night.

Dasani, you basically described our prom.

I never go to these dances because of that reason but last year was graduation year, yadayadayada, so I didn't want to skip prom since all of my friends were going. It is tradition afterall...

But imo... it's all just hype. We spent loads on dress, makeup, and other "accessories". It wasn't worth the money I spent but to miss a last chance to be with your high school friends one more time, I guess it more than makes up for it...

wow well you guys are a minority, not to be rude. most people i know like dances. :/

Yeah.. lol

I'm a senior. I didn't go to any of the dances at my school. I'm just going to go to prom. They usually have a famous band and stuff so it'll be worth it.

My school doesn't have dances anymore because people were having sex in the gym.

Didn't go to the game cause it was really rainy/muddy

I was hailed on.

plain old dances aren't worth it unless you have a date...i guess it would be fun if you had a dance (aka grinding) partner in mind but im not interested in doing that with anyone i know so ill pass on the dances. i couldnt miss prom though, my parents would consider me antisocial and i like to dress up anyway

Wow, mallomar. Your school sounds like the exact opposite of mine. NOBODY takes dates. Dates= ball and chain= horrible time. It's pretty funny how you say dance partner. Around here, you dance with friends until some guy comes up behind you, grabs your hips, and then you start grinding. I used to find it nervewracking (who the heck is that behind me!!!!) but now it's kind of exhilarting. (mmm, who is that behind me? lol)

I went to homecoming last night and it was AMAZING! 3 hours of amazing dancing and friends and sweat. I burned more calories than any old trip to the gym! :)

well what i said was "if you had a grinding partner in mind"
if you wanted to go dance/grind with anyone there
which i dont ever want to do because the guys are either unattractive or...unattractive
so by partner i meant someone to grind with for a song
not like a permanent partner to waltz with for the whole dance haha

Dasani - I totally agree with you. I'm a senior as well, and I've never gone to a dance because of those reasons. The fact is, if anyone really wants something significant out of a dance, then they shouldn't go to a HS one because it's a pathetic excuse for the real thing. :/ Let the people who can find enjoyment in it go.

The kids at my school don't dance either...they grind. Funny how you said it's like they're having "dry sex". lol
