I highly doubt that they would curve your scores. Maybe they will give you an option of a free retest.
My S got his writing scores this afternoon. 11,11,11,12 with writing score of 31. I am also wondering how 11s and 12 translated to 31. I am guessing above 30 should be good for top tier colleges. My son’s composite is 35 (single sitting and he is a junior).
oh I got my writing scores today… also in Los Angeles area and got my MC scores first Friday
Seems very strange about the writing scores. In particular, @srk2017’s comment is quite concerning. If you look at the percentiles for the Writing, a 25 is in the 90th percentile, a 28 is in the 95th percentile, and a 32+ is 99th percentile. I would suspect that for many high scorers, their writing score will be lower than their composite score. I hope top-tier colleges realize that a 30 on the Writing Section is a great score…and that 32/33+ is way harder to get than for the composite.
I want my score! I hope it comes out tonight
@golfcashoahu - Writing scores have no impact on composite scores. My son’s composite remained @ 35 and his ELA is 33. Also, previous writing was scored on 12 scale, not 36 scale. So 30 should translate to 10 and I am assuming it is 99% percentile (http://www.actstudent.org/scores/norms.html).
I understand that the writing score has no impact on composite scores. It just looks weird to, say, have a 34 composite and then a 26 writing. The scores look drastically different, but they really aren’t. And a 30 is not the 99th percentile; look here: http://www.act.org/aap/pdf/NormsChartSTEMELAWriting-Web2015-16.pdf. Either way, the new writing test is very interesting.
@golfcashoahu Yeah, I am in a similar place to you (if I read that comment correctly ) I got a 33 C and a 25 W. Kinda shocked because I like to write, and always did well in AP lang (including on the test). Is the writing score for the new test a big deal for highly selective schools, or will they understand how erratic the new scoring is for the writing since it is the first ever administration???
Did anyone from Canada get their scores so far?
Received writing score 30(10,10,11,11)
Wisteria100 - agree this is crazy (the thought of a manual check seems really crazy!)
It is making ME crazy to think people got MC’s almost 2 weeks ago and now writing and my son hasn’t received MC.
If we doesn’t get tomorrow I’ll be super mad.
This misinformation from them is so unprofessional… “they choose at random to manually cross-check vs. Scantron”
Really??? Their Scantron needs checking?
“if everyone at school has not received scores tat is coincidental”
And… putting one group of kids at a huge disadvantage because they cannot proceed with ED planning!!! ugh
@Coolmom23 Do you have the quality assurance message too?
My niece in NY also has the quality assurance message and I’ve just found out that some kids in CT also have it. She has not gotten any of her scores yet - very frustrating for her. When my sister called she was told that they are holding back the tests to score the writing section, which doesn’t even make any sense and besides, other kids have already gotten their writing scores as well. It really does seem very unfair. I see that there is also activity about this on their Facebook page so we aren’t talking about a small population that has been affected as they claim.
@GossamerWings Why do you think they have the assurance messages? There wasn’t a problem in past tests were there?
ok, don’t get me wrong- I’m really happy for those of you who have gotten writing scores, but this is literal madness, because so many people (MYSELF INCLUDED) haven’t even gotten our MC scores yet
literally what the flip is going on
its been almost a month and this is unacceptable.
i keep on getting that freakin quality assurance message when i know that i filled in all of the bubbles correctly
Did writing scores just come out?
@LordBendtner writing scores were updated through out the day.
@golfcashoahu thanks for the new percentile chart. 31 & 30 are 98th percentile. Colleges may not pay too much attention to writing score if everything else looks solid.
Still nothing for our New Englander beyond “quality assurance.” I agree this is madness. We have received three different stories from the ACT folks and this week can’t even get through on the phone. There is more going on here than they are acknowledging (others at his site didn’t receive either) and it is genuinely impacting/harming our kid’s options right now, not to mention adding undue stress.
@Valdog I don’t even have quality assurance
