Serious Doubt

I know this is not the place for this doubt, but still I have no other resources. I am a counselor in an Indian school, which has for the first time had students applying to universities in the USA for undergrad. So I am not much versed with the counselor duties. Now that all decisions have been declared, I have a doubt:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5kT8HqaVzvhYXBjVDRZeVExN1U/edit?usp=sharing

check the link above. It contains a screenshot of the counselor’s account. We have only 3 students applying. For the first student it displays a deadline of 7/11/2104 to submit the final report. I have personally seen his acceptance letters so that clears it. Now for the 3rd student, there is just a dash under the deadline, and I know he has been rejected by every school he applied to, so that made me assume that a deadline is available only to those who get accepted. But now the third student says that he has been admitted to Brown and Duke and waitlisted from Princeton, but there still is just a ‘-’ in his deadline section. I have not seen any proof for this acceptances, but still I don’t want any problems later with not being able to submit the final reports. Please explain this to me!

@anialways You seem to be pretty active on this forum. Please help me out here!

You should just ask him for proof. It doesn’t make sense to send in final reports to unis that he can’t attend, and you’re probably right about the fact that deadlines will only appear for accepted students.
If he really has been accepted and you’ve verified that he has, send an email to the CommonApp Services and ask them what’s going on. Or better yet, check the uni’s websites for the deadlines and send them an email too.
In addition to this, the left hand column of every page on the CommonApp site will have links to FAQs - atleast, this is how it is on the student’s portal. If you can’t find it, try googling “CommonApp Counselor FAQs”. That should help.

BTW, bear in mind that you can’t really expect answers for these questions on this forum - the presence here largely consists of students and parents, neither of whom can view the counselors’ portal on the CommonApp. So we won’t be able to help you too much. :)

@toodleoomi That really helped. And I do understand this is a Student centred forum, but there is nothing available as help to us less experienced (No experience!) Counselors. I asked the common application and they gave me a link to the FAQ which didn’t clear anything. And the student 2 has left the town and is not responding to any of the contact info that the school possesses and I don’t want any problems later.

Any more insights will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. And thanks again @toodleoomi for taking your time off to clarify things for me!

I am sorry, I just checked my first post. It says that the third student said he was accepted to Brown. It actually was the second student! The third got rejected from every school! So much for maintaining privacy!

The other reason for blank could be delay in status update. I would advise you to visit the specific college’e website and check deadlines directly from there.

Apologies for the delayed response.

Also I am just a parent. Glad to help in whatever way I can. So next time if you wish to reach me faster, the best way would be to send a PM.

@CounselorInIndia don’t mention it! :)

The three students probably have different places they applied to. And different colleges have different days and different procedures for getting the final reports. Some places will allow a walk in with the admitted student with scores /proof.
