Shampoo recommendation

So in addition to my usual cut and color I had my stylist apply a keratin treatment to part of my hair to keep the frizz down. She recommends using sulfate/sulfide? free shampoo.

Any recommendations? (prefer drugstore brands).

Thanks!

Don’t have a recommendation, but looking forward to responses.

I have always been curious about brands such as Wen, and whether they really work. It looks very intriguing.

I use two brands of sulfate-free shampoo that I purchase in Publix (our supermarket ). I like to rotate them but like them both equally. One is L’Oreal brands “Everpure”. The other is made br Coppola and is called Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy. Both smell nice, lather nice and protect my keratin treated hair.

Aveeno also makes a shampoo now that’s sulfate-free called Pure Renewal. It’s pretty nice and it’s sold at Walgreen’s.

I use L’Oreal EverCreme Sulfate-Free shampoo and conditioner and love them both. If you have dry hair, you may want to try L’Oreal EverCreme Sulfate-Free Cleansing Conditioner, which doesn’t lather at all, and is ultra-gentle on treated hair.

I like the ever cream too
If your scalp is not oily I would also suggest trying no shampoo at all for a few washes and see how that goes
Just condition and rinse
Or just use the shampoo right at the roots of your hair

I have frizzy curly hair and I don’t use shampoo but about once a week
I use boatloads of conditioner however

I have always used expensive “salon” hair products and frankly they didn’t seem to do anything special for my dry, course hair. Just before the summer I saw a commercial for Suave Keratin Shampoo and Conditioner and decided to try it. It is sold at Walmart and stores like that and is very inexpensive.

Well I am thrilled. Even in the hot humid summer I could see a huge difference in my hair condition. frizz level and bulk. Now that we have had some cooler, less humid days the difference is even more noticeable.

I recommended it to my daughter who has similar hair, and is a hair product snob, but she agreed to try it when she was home visiting. Well, she can’t believe how great it made her hair feel and has now switched to using it too.

She had been also using Argon Oil and liked what it did for her hair. She still uses that after she is done styling, and I would recommend that too. The combination is amazing. Walmart also sells a much less expensive brand of argon oil than you would get at a salon. As long as you make sure it is pure and organic it should work great for you.

Added bonus, after applying the argon oil to my hair I rub what is left completely into my hands and nails. My nails have gotten very strong. I don’t know if argon oil is advertised for this purpose, but it is a nice added plus that I have noticed.

I am currently using Pureology’s Perfect 4 Platinum Shampoo. It’s not terribly inexpensive, but a little goes a LONG way. I use much less then I do with other shampoos. I am not a slave to professional products and have used everything from Suave to Aveda to custom products. I go with what works for my hair at the time.

This is a list from the ULTA site of sulfate free shampoos, some of which are available at your local drug stores. It may be worth checking out for the descriptions and reviews. I did try the Loreal line and it didn’t work great with my hair. If one brand doesn’t work I wouldn’t give up on sulfate free. You may just need to try another brand. Everyone is different.

Lately, I’ve been shampooing my hair a lot less frequently. I guess as we get older we produce less of the yuck oil that makes our hair dirty. Anyway, a friend says one of her guilty beauty secrets is the spray powder instant shampoos – suave and dove make them. I find that they work well to just give my hair a little body and shape between shampoos and that I ended up shampooing less often. I think overall this has helped the condition of my hair.

My DH says my hair smells good when I use the powder stuff. :)

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I will be going out tonight to buy.

Any additional information on the argan oil? What kind of products? How to user it? It looks quite expensive

^ I use a brand called “Morraccan Oil” that I buy from my stylist. Is is expensive, but a bottle lasts me a year. I think that there are less expensive brands now.

I put just a little bit on my hands and then smooth over the top layer of my hair before drying. Helps with the frizz.

I like this oil from Dove better than argan oil: [Dove Nutritive Therapy Nourishing Oil Care Nutri-Oil Serum | Hair | Treatments](http://www.mydove.com.au/en/Products/Hair/Hair-Treatments/Dove-Nutritive-Therapy-Nourishing-Oil-Care-Nutri-Oil-Serum.aspx)

Is this found on the shampoo aisle? I’d love to try it. Do you remember the name?

There is a less expensive Argan Oil product I purchased at Walgreens from Organix. They also sell an Argan oil shampoo and conditioner; I just have the oil. Looking at the ingredients, my guess is the more expensive ones are pure argan oil or a higher percentage.

Sally’s Beauty Supply also carries Argan oil. It’s hard to find the list of ingredients online to compare the products.

I think some of the other brands are jumping on the Argan oil bandwagon, as well, such as Garnier Fructis, L’Oreal, and TRESemme.

I can use sulfates, but not sulfites…I spend the big bucks on Aveda, but am searching for an alternative.

Someone in another thread recommended the Trader Joe’s brand of shampoo to avolid all the sulfates and whatnot. My girlfriend and I picked it up a while ago ($4 for shampoo, $4 for conditioner), and we were both pretty amazed at how nice it felt.

Aveda Dry Remedy, I believe, has no sodium laureth sulfates, or sulfites of any type.

They are expensive and not a drugstore brand, though. Still, it’s worth the money.
You might also try your local Whole Foods store, they will have plenty of sulfate free products.

AllThisIsNewToMe the brand I use is Organix. I get the extra strength formula. I believe that it is in the shampoo aisle at Walmart, but it might be with the conditioners if your store has those in different places. It is a blue container if that helps.

Someone else mentioned Sally’s Beauty Supply. I love Sally’s! I don’t know how widespread the chain is, but the prices and the quality of product is excellent compared to other stores.
