I kind of want to go see Snow White and the Huntsman.

The last movies I saw and really liked were Margin Call and Martha Marcy May Marlene.

Then I saw a bunch that H picked out that I didn’t like:
Melancholia (felt nauseous)
The Skin I live in (Almodovar – also felt nauseous during one scene which I won’t inflict on you, but suffice it to say – if you have a son, you will feel like your skin’s being peeled back)
Tinker Tailor (gave up trying to follow it)
A Dangerous Method (wish we saw more of Michael Fassbender, if you catch my drift)
Prometheus (ok so it was Ridley Scott but after the first hour it just felt like a horror flick and the wondrous sci-fi element had left the building)

I am now in full pursuit of the right system to watch movies at home. H does Netflix DVDs; I signed up for Netflix free trial streaming. What a wasteland. They don’t have “Bridesmaids” – they have “Revenge of the Bridesmaids”. I ended up watching a movie I’d heard was good but thought would be too depressing: Boys Don’t Cry. Actually quite touching and great performance by Hilary Swank. Next one like that is Million Dollar Baby (which I’ve heard has an even tougher ending).

I think Amazon Prime has a good deal and better selection for streaming. Interested in hearing people’s thoughts. We do not have pay-per-view or movies on demand on TV. In fact, we have the least amount of channels you can have and still be considered human.

Just saw MIB 3, and I enjoyed it. Definitely better than MIB 2.

They seem to be similar as far as content goes, as far as I could tell. However, Amazon Prime also comes with free two-day shipping. It makes Amazon a much better place to get stuff when you aren’t getting nickel-and-dimed for shipping, or searching for extra stuff to buy to reach the $25 free shipping level.

Favorite movie that has recently come out on DVD: Ralph Fiennes’ “Coriolanus.”

One of my LEAST favorite movies of all time: “Million Dollar Baby.” Ugh.

We saw two movies recently:
Men in Black III–I enjoyed it and thought it was fun, H liked it more than I did. I agree that it was definitely better than MIBII, but I still prefer MIBI,

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel: we both REALLY liked this one. It was such a pleasure to watch a movie that didn’t blast you away with special effects, just special dialog and filming. The entire cast was terrific, especially Judie Dench. A delight.

We got rid of our pay channels because we stopped watching them. We used to use netflix but it’s become more tv episodes. And frankly, I’m a film buff who has seen huge numbers of old movies - and foreign movies, particularly from France, Italy and Japan - so I would have to dig into choices I didn’t really want. And my wife doesn’t like subtitles. I also tried Hulu Plus. It’s ok. I sometimes use Amazon Prime. It’s ok too. There is no magic source of great stuff to watch. I think I’m at least partly to blame for my oldest’s career choice in Hollywood.

BTW, I liked Tinker, Tailor and I’m not a LeCarre fan. We have a “tradition” of inflicting a Colin Firth movie on our youngest child each Christmas. She hated A Single Man. She loved The King’s Speech. She hated Tinker, Tailor. And so on. She loved Mamma Mia. I could go on. She hated When Did You Last See Your Father. She loved What A Girl Wants.

Our whole family liked this one. (Parents + two teen boys + one teen girlfriend, BUT my teens were also brought up with more than typical teen watching “stuff” so YMMV.) When we left the theater we didn’t hear a bad word about the movie from anyone. Those who didn’t like it were either quiet or non-existent. It’s one of the few movies I feel I could watch twice and still enjoy it.

The Intouchables. Whole family loved it, and think David Denby (who panned it in The New Yorker) is nuts.

Saw Hysteria this evening, and really enjoyed it. Surprisingly sweet romance, found Maggie Gylenhaal and Hugh Dancy’s performances believable. Light and humorous while still making some statements about women and men.

I really loved Salmon Fishing in Yemen- one of my favorite films in a long time. Also enjoyed Marigold Hotel a lot. Does it say a lot about me that all of my favorite movies are shown at the local artsie theater, where the average age of movie goers is about 70?

Another older one that I really liked was The Ghost Writer, also with Ewan McGregor.

At the library, we picked up an award-winning Italian film recently released on DVD, and liked it. It’s called “The Double Hour” (“La doppia ora”). Lots of interesting twists.

Takeitallin, everyone in my family liked “The Ghost Writer”…which is saying something!

Yes to “The Ghost Writer!” Why was it so underrated? Terrific film.

“Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy”

Just watched on DVD against my protests. Never been big on LaCarre. But such a good film. Tremendous acting, much better than the old one with Alec Guiness.

If you havn’t seen it Temple Grandin is one of my favorite movies. The real Temple Grandin loved the movie.

[Temple Grandin (Trailer) - YouTube](<a href=“Temple Grandin (Trailer) - YouTube”>Temple Grandin (Trailer) - YouTube)

Watched “John Carter” last night.

I enjoyed it, although it is a little dorky in spots. But then, I have actually read the books, so dorky is right up my alley.

“Moonrise Kingdom”- very charming and atmospheric.

Tinker Tailor is one of those films that you need to see twice in order to “get” all its subtle nuances. Definitely worth seeing again as the acting is tremendous!
I loved MIB 3!

Wow. I’ve seen most of the movies listed in this thread and agree: they’re great and worth checking out. My, we all have a great taste in movies ;)

My favorite as of late is Drive. There isn’t much talking, which I found to be a break from those “chatty” movies. Also an interesting plot line. And Ryan Gosling is a plus

I recently saw two movies that I thought were quite good. The first one is called Mary and Max and the second one is called I Saw the Devil. Both can be found on Netflix Instant Watch. First one is a sad story and the second one is also a sad film that reveals just how far decent and good men can fall in life. The second film is for older audiences btw.
