Seconding Bernie with Jack Black. Very good, very funny and Jack Black was terrific.

Moonrise Kingdom—charming! Audience applauded at end. Main characters, while unknown, were delightful…and I was surprised at the “big” names: Bruce Willis, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Harvey Keitel and Bob Balaban (he played Phoebe’s dad in Friends). Transported back to the '60’s…great costumes, sets…loved it.

Living in northern Florida does nothing for my movie watching. Currently there are three movies I want see but are in limited release - Moonrise Kingdom, Safety Not Guarenteed, To Rome With Love. Luckily Seeking a Friend At The End of the World is coming out on Friday which looks fantastic.

Have to admit I’d like to see Tom Cruise in Rock of Ages. Will wait for DVD though.

So any Terrence Malick fans on this thread? I watched Thin Red Line for the second time recently and I think I’m beginning to get an inkling of what it’s about. Hs older films were so much easier to parse then the more recent stuff but I do find them compelling.

We saw Rock of Ages- it is a LOT of fun if you really LOVE musicals, old time rock and roll ,and would enjoy some “over the top” performances by great actors- Ton Cruise is a surprisingly good singer! It is a Hoot!

Brave is an amazing movie. It’s extremely intense and I would think hard about taking many 5 year olds to see it. Lovely, magical, heart-rending and very scary. Terrific story that’s almost unique in animated movies: a mother and daughter and how they get along. The best animation I’ve ever seen. Very special in 3D.

As for Malick, I know his work by heart. Thin Red Line is one of the very few great war movies, along with Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket. I loved Tree of Life. Not so much the dinosaurs but the rest.

I saw 2 movies this weekend. Nothing heavy but both were good. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, and Jeff Who Lives at Home. Jeff was a freebie from Redbox (love those codes) and Salmon was at our local $2 theater. I enjoyed both. Not Academy Award material, but good material all the same.

I just watched ‘Beginners’ with Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer which was very good. I wanted to see it for Plummer’s performance since his Oscar win and just to stare at Ewan McGregor’s face for two hours. It had a good flow and was interesting. Check it out if you can.

Over the weekend I went to the movie theater and saw Seeking a Friend For the End of the World with Steve Carell and Kiera Knightley. Cute romantic comedy with a very sad premise. Enjoyed it but put me in sour mood at the end. I hope Carell does more films or something because I miss his presence on the screen.

We just saw “Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.” I cannot tell a lie–it was very entertaining, and the lead actor makes you believe he is Lincoln.

We saw Prometheus this weekend. I really liked it (but I’m a HUGE fan of the first “Alien” movie, too.) I especially liked how the movie left a lot of open-ended questions for you to ponder once the film was over…

Am I the only one who found Salmon Fishing a yawn? OTOH, I really enjoyed Jeff Who Lives at Home.

I saw Safety Not Guaranteed this weekend and liked it. I’d describe it as quirky - and short, at slightly under 1 1/2 hours.

familyof3, no you are not the only one. I was quite disappointed as I had read the book and loved it.

The alt version of Wanderlust was better than the final version.

Finally got the courage to watch “In the land of blood and honey,” Angelina Jolie’s very brave movie on the war in Bosnia. She wrote/directed it. It’s a surprisingly good movie, gritty, shocking, painful - and important. It still boggles my mind that 50 years after the Holocaust, it happened AGAIN, and the world stood by and watched for all-too long. Anyway, it’s not a chipper little romcom, you have to kind of toughen up to watch it… but for me, it was definitely worth the nerves.

Saw ‘Jesus Henry Christ’, with Toni Colette and Michael Sheen, quirky and sweet, similar dysfunctional family as in Little Miss Sunshine. Funny actually, with what I found real dialogue…

I have never seen Toni Colette is something I didn’t really like.

^ I know, I love her. My daughter and I just discovered United States of Tara on Netflix and can’t get enough of her in that role.

My all time favorite Toni Colette movie is “Muriel’s Wedding.” Her breakthrough role. You can stream it on Netflix.

The appendices of the LOTR videos. Amazing!
