<p>I loved how accurate it was to the book. And yet it was modern, it didn’t seem old or dull at all. Very exciting and vivid colors and sounds. The soundtrack was phenomenal. Modern energizing hits like “No Church In the Wild” mixed with classic '20s jazz songs. Incredible acting. Tobey couldn’t have possibly been a better Nick, I imagined him as nick before the new movie was even announced. Di Caprio is so lovable and trustable. You are taken from seeing him as a stranger and weird neighbor to a modern Romeo. </p>
<p>The movie was perfect. Best thing I’ve seen since Forrest Gump. (Okay, maybe Avatar)
I almost cried at the end and I’m a guy. If youve read the book you’ll appreciate it and how accurate the story is. I give it a 10/10</p>
<p>Friends of mine, all lovers of the book, found that Luhrmann followed the plot but completely missed the point. If the book is a great one, it is not because of the plot. That being said, they still found the movie to be a fun ride, but not because of anything relating to the book.</p>
<p>I enjoyed Star Trek, but I miss the moral lessons. S2 said it was a great Star Wars movie, but kind of missed the point of Star Trek. OTOH, they’ve now set it up so they could do Star Treck movies from now on!</p>
<p>Our newspaper liked Gatsby pretty well. I got the impression from their review that if you liked Moulin Rouge, you might like it. DH hated MR, and I never saw it, so that wasn’t much help. OTOH, I never liked the book much so, I might well like the movie, just as a movie. Since I haven’t read the book since 1973, there’s no issue of thinking the characters are all wrong. I remember nothing.</p>
<p>I much prefer the 70’s Gatsby. The new one is a feast for the eyes certainly, but I’m not sophisticated enough to appreciate the infusion of hip-hop music into a 20’s set movie.</p>
<p>CSISHIS – I’m interested in seeing Before Midnight, but I haven’t seen the first two. I see that you’ve seen them all. Do you think I would enjoy Before Midnight if I haven’t seen the first two, or do you feel it’s really necessary to see the first two before you see this one?</p>
<p>The only other movie I want to see is Stories We Tell.</p>
<p>Before Midnight has so many references to the first two. Definitely watch them online or something. After having a few hours to think I’m pretty sure Before Sunset is my favorite of the three, at least for now.</p>
<p>We liked Mud but it’s a fairly conventional Hollywood story dressed up by the locations - meaning the trendiness in portraying “real” as bayou or the like, as if everyone lives in Duck Dynasty or something. Can’t say more without giving away plot.</p>
<p>What made the movie was the nuts and bolts of its making. The pictures. The lighting. The set decoration, down to the lamp next to Ellis’ bed. The editing. The sound design. The kids’ acting was good - remembering that this occurs in the context of the film where they’re mostly expected to sit and move and say a few words not to carry long bits of dialogue. </p>
<p>This is a trend in movie-making: take a small story and stick a bunch of Hollywood devices on it to make it palatable for production and then make it well enough that no one notices the huge holes the Hollywood devices create in the supposedly real world plot. </p>
<p>BTW, the one really heavy-handed bit was the scene of the apartment complex at the end with its newly planted trees and neat lawns. Really? There isn’t anything in between that and a shack?</p>
<p>Watched Behind the Candelabra on HBO last night. It was good, but not near the level of its praise. People were like “It’s going to sweep Cannes!”</p>
<p>I agree with you CSIHSIS! Behind the Candelabra received so much hype we could not wait to watch. It was ok/decent/good but nothing great. Thought the story fell a bit short -not worthy of a two hour movie and can now understand why the major studios did not want to do this movie. Enjoyed watching Michael Douglas play Liberace. Thought Rob Lowe did a great job playing the creepy plastic surgeon.</p>
<p>Really want to see Before Midnight but it isn’t in my area until June 14th I’ve been waiting for this movie for almost a year and at this point it hasn’t gotten one bad review. </p>
<p>I would recommend finding a way to see Before Sunrise and Before Sunset if you can. These two films have so much heart in them and will make you want Before Midnight more. I’ve been in love with these films since I found them last summer and they really take something away from you. </p>
<p>Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke are the perfect couple in these films and they have this story that is now almost 20 years old.</p>
<p>Went to see The Iceman–movie is based on a true story about a notorious contract killer who methodically does his job and feels not a bit of remorse. Only feelings he has are for his family–who he shields from the reality of his job. Michael Shannon does a great job as the contract killer and Winona Ryder, who plays his wife, delivered a strong performance. Not sure how I feel about this film. It’s dark (plot and cinematography) and you won’t go away feeling good.</p>
<p>We saw StarTrek and am struggling to understand the good reviews I’ve heard. Thought it was very boring … thought The Hobbit was boring too but loved Lord of the Rings.</p>
