<p>I just saw Mud, and I really enjoyed it–especially the two young teen boys. The movie was filmed in the area surrounding my hometown. It was surreal to see so many familiar places on film. And the Mississippi River and the White River are elevated almost to the status of characters in the film, just as they really are to many people who live in the area. However, the film shows only the seedy, poor side of SE Arkansas. Not every building in the area is falling down, and not everyone who lives there is poor. And I’m pretty sure the snakes in the film were NOT cottonmouths. Other than that–good job!</p>
<p>Another one here who just saw Mud and liked it, as did my husband and son.</p>
<p>I also disliked “This is 40” and didn’t make it through the entire movie, despite being a big Jud Apatow and Graham Parker fan. Even more disappointing was “Not Fade Away”, a film I was expecting to rival “Almost Famous”, with David Chase directing, James Gandolfini in a supporting role, and a 60s music soundtrack compiled by Steve Van Zandt. It did have decent acting and great music, but the plot went nowhere, the 60s scenes were very cliche, and had an abrupt ending. How it received so many decent reviews is beyond me.</p>
<p>Loved Gatsby. On rotten tomatoes you’ll see the critics pan it and 84% of audience like it.</p>
<p>H and I have been on a movie kick lately and have gone to see three movies over the last two weeks. Second the recommendation for “The Angel’s Share”–it’s a delightful movie. H and I really enjoyed it. I wasn’t as high on “A Place Beyond the Pines” as other posters. To me, it seemed a bit disjointed. Third movie was “The Reluctant Fundamentalist”. It was more of a documentary than a film and the point of the film is made over and over. Protagonist Riz Ahmed stands out–great performance. Kate Hudson is his love interest–her hair is dark brown and I didn’t recognize her at first. Seems like a change of character from her usual roles, but she did a good job here.</p>
<p>Finally saw “The Impossible.” The older boy in the movie gave an incredible performance. I thought the movie was great. </p>
<p>Also saw “Silver Linings Playbook.” I knew I wouldn’t be happy with the huge differences between the book and the movie and i wasn’t. Even trying to be objective, it was just an okay movie - nothing special to me in the performances either. Kudos to Harvey Weinstein’s marketing genius.</p>
<p>Not Fade Away was not very good.</p>

<p>Just watched Butter with Jennifer Garner. Found it to be amusing and entertaining.</p>
<p>Butter had limited theatrical release. We saw it on pay per view and enjoyed it as well.</p>

<p>Iron Man 3. I was not that interested in this, and even sent the boys in while I made three trips to get concessions. Was sorry to hear that I missed a preview for Thor.</p>
<p>I thought it was good, and I really enjoyed Ben Kingsley’s performance.</p>
<p>I love Rebecca Hall and was thrilled to see her in the film.</p>
<p>Son and Husband are avid comic book/super hero fans, and they loved it.</p>
<p>Can hardly wait for Star Trek this weekend.</p>
<p>Saw an Israeli Film Festival winner tonight, called “Fill the Void”. Very well done movie.</p>

<p>Loved it. But, if the words “vulcan death grip in 3D” don’t thrill you then it’s probably not your cup of tea. H fell asleep while D and I squealed with delight.</p>
<p>Also, Benedict Cumberbatch is the best bad boy ever.</p>
<p>I loved “Iron Man 3” (best of that series so far) and “Oblivion.” I can’t wait to see the new “Star Trek” and am also looking forward to Will Smith’s new movie “After Earth.” I’m a big fan of science fiction movies, in case you couldn’t tell ;).</p>

Atonement - Oh my God. That five minute long shot at Dunkirk though.
Hanna - again with the long shots. Joe Wright is deff one of my favorite directors for visual style.
Star Trek - pretty predictable all the way through, but still sexy to look at and still good story.</p>
<p>OMG, Star Trek. Fantastic! I am loving this new series. They’re already getting the chemistry down. And I like how it’s not just a retread of the old series, but more of an “alternate universe”.</p>
<p>How fitting that Man of Steel will come out Father’s Day weekend. Son is away for a summer job and I’m thinking of flying him home just so he and his dad can see it together.</p>
<p>These are two really quiet unheard of movies. The most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.
The Endless Summer is a documentary from 1966 about three surfers who travel the world looking for the “perfect wave”. Beautiful movie, very scenic and enjoyable. Family friendly. </p>
<p>Chasing Mavericks just came out a year or two ago. Another brilliant surfing movie. About a young boy from California who learns how to surf from an old seasoned pro. Very inspirational. Loved it. </p>
<p>And of course, the new Gatsby was just perfect in every way.</p>
<p>I heard from some friends that Gatsby was not good. What did you like?</p>
