<p>Just finished the first season of House of Cards. I watched it cause I love Kevin Spacey and one of my friends recommended it. I definitely thought it was incredibly well done, but I felt really sad and angry and just kind of weirded out after watching it. It was beautifully made, the writing was great, the acting was superb (especially Corey Stoll, geesh, he needs an Emmy). I just couldn’t get myself to connect with any of the characters at all. I didn’t feel pity for any of them (I’m guessing that was the point, but still). Somehow I couldn’t stop watching it though. </p>

<p>Just finished watching the french subtitled film the Intouchables. About a rich aristocrat who is a quadriplegic who is cared for by an ex-con. Really good movie.</p>
<p>H and I went to see Admission today. We both love Tina Fey, and I read the book a year or so ago. Good film, but very surprised that the ending – pivotal situation – was changed completely. 180 degrees. I don’t understand why the director/producer felt the need to do that. If you saw it, what are your thoughts on the change to the ending?</p>
<p>I saw 42 last night. I would encourage parents to take 10 and ups to see it. But they should prepare their kids to hear really ugly racist language and talk through it afterwards. Harrison Ford developed Branch Rickey’s character quite well. Uplifting story, well done.</p>
<p>Just saw The Angels Share. Won the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes. Dramatic comedy that ends up quite heartwarming. Quite fun if you enjoy humor from the UK.</p>
<p>Just saw “The Angels Share” quite delightful, very enjoyable! Very visceral in places and not for the fainthearted when it comes to colorful language. I do find subtitles distracting when people are speaking English (albeit various dialects) but I highly recommend it anyway!</p>
<p>I saw The Place Beyond the Pines last night. It was amazing, I highly recommend it. The story was captivating, the acting was fantastic (Gosling and Cooper were really good, but the younger actors were the highlight), and the cinematography was so beautiful. It’s one of those movies that will probably stick with me for a while.</p>
<p>Saw Mud yesterday - very good! The two boys were especially good. Reminded me of Stand By Me, a coming of age movie about complex relationships. And a shirtless Matthew McConaughey never hurts…</p>

I’ve watched to see if someone mentioned Mud. The reviews look good and I want to see it. We don’t go to movies often but I think I’ll pull the Mother’s Day card and go (with family) next weekend. Good to see a “thumbs up” here.</p>
<p>We rented This is 40 and Guilt Trip. Hated This is 40. My wife turned it off. The basic problem is the characters live in a big house, have obviously been successful and yet never in the movie show enough intelligence, in their lives or in their businesses, to ever have been that successful. </p>
<p>We liked Guilt Trip. It’s a small movie. Barbra is great. Seth Rogen is very good. It reminded me of an Albert Brooks movie. Nice emotional payoff at the end.</p>
