I nearly cried with that last episode.

Shows I watch currently:
•Bridezillas just started their last season EVER!
•Marriage Bootcamp started
•Dance Moms
•Game of Thrones
•True Blood (I just want it to start already!)
•Bad Girls All Stars
•Bad Girls
•So You Think You Can Dance
•Tosh.O
•The Bachelorette
•Marrie to Medicine

I think the biggest shock I’ve ever had from a movie or TV series was the debate scene toward the middle of season 5 episode 9. An ecstatic surprise. Sometimes it’s when the writer seems to be making the least effort to create surprise value that the story develops on its own in the most surprising way through events that are mundane compared to the relentless violence and betrayal in The Wire. In this case, it comes in the form of “look how much character x has changed since you last saw x.”

While there are other surprises in this series and others that go deeper into the plot and have better replay value, none had me jumping from my seat and gasping (while smiling – instead of :-O) like this scene.

Granted, I have a soft spot for debate.

Downton abbey <3

I started watching Breaking Bad and while I didn’t exactly love the first two seasons, the third season is getting really, really good. I think I expected too much, because of all the hype surrounding it.

I’m looking into watching Friday Night Lights, finishing the Sopranos and catching up on Supernatural.

As for re-runs, I love The Golden Girls and The King of Queens. I also watch too many reality shows, like The Wanted Life, Hardcore Pawn, Bridezillas and the Real Housewives of New Jersey. New season!

My h loves the new Da Vinci servies on Starz - I enjoy it, but the sex stuff gets a wee bit raunchy. This is too bad, because I think the show would be otherwise interesting for kids.

Glad to see Hill Street Blues, Six Feet Under and Taxi all in the top 20. Brilliantly written shows with great ensemble casts. I can still quote episodes of Taxi verbatim, even though the shows haven’t aired (even re-runs) in at least 10 years.

This is a great thread! I’m not a huge TV viewer but now and then a show just grabs me, and many of those have been mentioned. I have a love/hate relationship with the writers of Game Of Thrones and Downton Abbey - they keep killing off my favorite characters!

Loved the early Office years (best ever: Beach Day).

Agree with others on Arrested Development - watched all of the new episodes in on sitting!

No one has mentioned my favorite old show - Star Trek Next Gen - have them all on DVD and am watching them in order as my treadmill entertainment.

H is hooked on Pawn Stars and Amer Pickers, but he also loves Top Gear.

And anything on HGTV is a fallback for me!

HGTV! That channel is definitely something I always check when there seems to be nothing on TV. I love Flip or Flop (the show with the husband and wife who flips houses). I also like the show with the two brothers who try to renovate or sell the customers house. The name escapes me. I only watch the regular house hunters. (Can’t stand the international one). Property Virgins I like more since they got rid of the original lady.

Our favorite Star Trek retread was the Voyager series. We did like Next Gen, but Voyager, with Janeway and her supporting cast, was great!

Can hardly wait to do a Killing marathon and Dexter marathon when son comes back for a visit.

I am trying to like DaVinci, was really looking forward to the show. Agree, will not be able to watch all that sex with my 21 y/o son, who I really wanted to watch it with, because of the time period and the engineering/science involved.

Hannibal, I am also trying to like, but I have such a hard time understanding the main character’s accent. But I’m happy the series has been renewed, which was a little surprising to me.

My guilty pleasure is back this summer, Dance Moms, and I am trying to catch baseball when I can. We no longer get the Astros games, but instead, get my favorite team, the Rangers, which is a win/win for me, since Lance Berkman is now a Texas Ranger.

Did anyone see the Season 3 premiere of The Killing this week? I won’t say anything to spoil it but I will say that I’m very happy that it’s back!

I don’t watch HGTV as much as I used to but am still happy to see that so many of the shows are still Canadian. I don’t love Househunters the way I did before I knew that it was totally and completely fake. And Niquii, how can you like the new woman on PV more than Sandra?! That’s HGTV blasphemy! And Sandra was an actual real estate agent, unlike Egypt who is an actor/radio personality. I was disappointed when Sandra decided not to keep on doing PV, although her new show is enjoyable, too.

Montegut, Consider no longer getting Astros games a blessing!

TV is very boring. It is just on while I do something else, otherwise this something else will also get boring. Well, I woudl say that the least boring out of all series is probably News. At least, I do not have to change chanels as often. So, if I know that my hands will be very dirty, I keep TV on news. If I know that my hands will be available for remote control, I watch Dance Moms, I got wot switch every time the Moms get into the next squable, quacking like stupid hens, being ridicuolosly less mature than their incredibly talented 7 - 12 y o daughters.
My absolutely favorite used to be Discovery Heath that has been destroed by our lovely Oprah and all her hugely boring shows, yuk!! I has wished her very low rating after she took my favorite channel from me.

I never watch TV as it is being broadcast; I always download episodes and watch them at my own pace. I think of serials as audiovisual novels.

“I think of serials as audiovisual novels” - I wish they did not have “hahaha…” on a background, very irritating and interrupts my sleep if I am actually trying to fall asleep by having TV on, it is the best sleeping pill, although I have to turn it off at some point.

I share your grievance toward laugh tracks. Very few of the series I choose to watch have laugh tracks, although that’s more a symptom of the producers of a good series recognizing that their humor is effective without a cue for laughter than of me avoiding laugh tracks conscientiously.

They still put laugh tracks on TV shows? Do they strip those tracks out when the series goes to DVD?

I watched the premiere of The Fosters (ABC Family) and thought it was pretty good. Nice family drama that I hope will take on some serious issues about the foster care system.

Surprised older series MI 5 (BBC) has not been mentioned. I recently ‘found’ this show and watched all 10 seasons… (thru Netflix and our local Library DVDs) OMG! Fabulous - once you start you cannot stop, each episode is a ‘cliffhanger’ and onto the next one seamlessly.

Car buffs should look at Fast and Loud or counting cars…

Major Crimes - Season Two - started last night! :)
