My Christmas gift came early yesterday - a new Itouch! Wow, I am totally intrigued with what it can do!

The app store is overwhelming! Care to share your favorite app? Free ones are even better.

I’m especially looking for one that will find restaurants and want something to keep track of books read or ones I want to read - I know I could use notes, but figure there must be something better.

While we’re at it, share your favorite feature on you Itouch/Iphone - gotta train us newbies!

I also use Urbanspoon, but I find many of the listings outdated. It is ok when searching for a restaurant in a certain area though.

My family seems to use Wikipanion a good bit; there is always something we want to look up while we are out, especially when we are at dinner having a conversation.

I like that when you hook it up to your computer, you can rearrange what pages the apps are on.
from the ipod there is also genius that will recommend other applications

I have my basic APPS on first page-wifitrak,istat& carpenter, along the mail, calendaretc.

Yelp is my favorite app to help me find nearby restaurants, banks, drug stores, etc. It also links to restaurant reviews and gives driving directions from your current location to the restaurant. It’s invaluable!

One great app for Christmas shopping season is Redlaser. [RedLaser ? Impossibly accurate barcode scanning](http://redlaser.com/). You can scan bar codes with your iPhone and it gives you a list of stores that sell that item, along with their prices so you can compare. You can tap the link to the store and order the item online or you can just keep a list of products and email it to yourself or to someone else. It’s $1.99 but I think it’s worth the money.

[Naturespace is another cool one. They call it Holographic Audio. Plug in your headphones (even works well with earbuds), sit back and listen to sounds of nature. Choose thunderstorms, babbling brooks, the surf, a rain forest, or even the sound of crows in a field. This app is free.

Instapaper is a free app. Find something online that you want to read but don’t have time to read right now. Install the Instapaper bookmarklet to Firefox or Safari and when you come across a webpage you want to read later, just click Read Later. Afterwards, when you do have time, just fire up the Instapaper app on your iPhone and it opens up the web content that you saved earlier so you can read it on the phone.

If you’re familiar with TED, TED: Ideas worth spreading/url, you’ll be glad to know you can install the TED app on your iPhone and watch the talks there.

Finally, the Imax Power external battery is fantastic. IPhone Battery Pack, Backup Extender 3G s, External Power IPhone](http://www.naturespace.com/) This isn’t an app, but it’s a great gizmo to go along with your iPhone or iTouch if you find that your battery runs out too quickly. It gives you 400% extra battery life, enough to play 11 movies without recharging the battery. That’s more than enough power to keep your iPhone charged up on a super long flight while you play movies or music. The Imax Power isn’t much bigger than the iPhone itself so you can carry it in your purse or briefcase easily. It sells for $49.95 or $53.95, depending on color, but there’s a 20% off Black Friday coupon on the website that’s good through Nov. 30. I ordered one for myself yesterday after I saw one in action.

It seems Red Laser changed their search from Google to TheFind and people do not like it at all. patsmom, I am interested in your thought about the new version. Do you see a difference in the search?

Emeraldkitty, I’m liking your page organizing system…I’ll have to figure out exactly how to do this…so you hook it up to your computer and then where do you or what do you use to arrange them? On the Itunes menu?? Probably a dumb question, but dumber not to just ask when I’m not sure!!!

You can arrange your apps- when your ipod is hooked up to computer through itunes menu.
On the applications tab(after ipodis selected), the applications you have installed will show up on the left- you can select or deselect by cliking.
To the right, it will show what pages they are available on- you can drag them to another page- ( you also can do this by touch on your ipod but itis trickier)

You can rearrange apps right on the ITouch; don’t need the computer. If you hold down an app they all start wiggling and have an “x” - you can drag them around; even from page to page. If you touch the “X” it gives you the option to delete the app. Then touch the main screen button to get out of the wiggle mode.

I’ve only put on free apps - one of the most fun is Labyrinth since it looks so realistic. I agree with OpenTable for restaurant reservations but it doesn’t show all restaurants ; just the ones that are signed up (which is a lot). Free solitaire of course. I’ve got Pandora for music when near wireless, and Stanza for a book program. DS added three games while he’s home for Thanksgiving but I haven’t tried them myself so can’t recommend them! I’ve also got a simple hangman, and a kitten jigsaw app that will also use any photos you’ve loaded (those have to be loaded through the ITunes software).

Just go into the apps store and think of a category like Aquarium, calendar, spreadsheet, solitaire, etc. - then search that category and see what looks interesting. Each one will include a rating, description, and probably screen shots. Then you can decide if you want to download it. Try it out and if you don’t like it, delete.

Just got an iPhone a couple of days ago, and luckily D2 is home for a few days for spring break so I could pick her brain on apps she has that I might like. I also remembered this thread from last fall, so I am bumping it back up.

Found one that wasn’t mentioned here that I already love even though I haven’t used it:
Find My Car. It allows you to mark your spot when you park, then when you’re ready to go back to your car, it uses GPS to lead you.
