Sharing, Venting, Supporting Class of 2018

I keep threatening to break out the wine. It’s 9:04 am here and my youngest son and I are both home sick. Not a good day for me to have nothing to do but watch the time tick by…

I think I will break out the wine ( or at least the nyquil) and start writing really bad poetry about the woes of waiting for school decisions:

Oh Emerson

every since the day they met,
my son and emerson’s fate was set.

maybe yes, maybe no,
Will he do well here, will this place strengthen his flow…

They question and wonder, both unsure
Is he the right type, is this the right place…
Perhaps we should consider another, perhaps he should consider Pace

We like you dear S…really we do
I like you too Emerson… for certain it’s true.

Lets have some space, and let things be.
Waitlist for you two, then we will see.

oops sorry

Haha! That’s great @Octaviar!! =D>

Great poem. Maybe if you send it to Emerson they will take you off the wait list :). I am with you…the waiting is killing me.

Just a heads up, but two people are using this account. At first it was only me but now my guy friend from the states (he was wait listed @ Rutgers; I didn’t apply) is also using it.

My D just heard that a good friend of hers was accepted to Julliard, Class 47! To give you some perspective, this student was not accepted to any auditioned BFA program last year. The student decided to take a another year to train and prepare and go through the process again - and was accepted everywhere they applied this year.

Just goes to show - never give up on your dream! If you don’t get the results you’re hoping for, take a step back, assess where you are and where you want to be, and make a plan.

Awesome news. Great perspective!!

Wow! That’s amazing ! Did her friend take a gap year and reapply as a freshman or is she a transfer? Certainly something to think about…

@hopenest, why not just make another account? Otherwise people will be confused.

Her friend reapplied as a freshman.

Congrats to your D’s friend, she is an inspiration to us all.

Also, to clarify, my friend only wanted to post his Rutgers news so that theory of callback weekend people getting wait listed is debunked.

I just got rejected from University of WI- Steven’s Point. I had just recently decided that I was pretty sure I would pick my Viterbo acceptance over Steven’s Point if I got in there. So, no tears over this one, but a lot of anger and frustration at the fact they told me “Very excellent job. We really hope you’ll consider us.” Hmm, ok… and not even a wait list letter after that comment. That rubbed me the wrong way.

So… I just have Webster, my #1, to hear back from. After 3 rejections, it’s looking pretty slim. We are visiting Webster for the second time this Saturday which I’m so grateful for. Because, if I don’t get accepted, I’m so happy to be able to see it one last time because “home is where the heart is.”

I am BEYOND grateful for my Viterbo acceptance because even though it isn’t a world famous program, I do love it there. I have been shown a kindness from the people at Viterbo that I have not experienced anywhere or from anyone else in my life. Not to mention, we attended a main stage production of “The Mystery of Edwin Drood.” Can you say amazing? It put all of my fears to rest.

That’s wonderful Nomester7, fingers crossed for Webster, but I think you’ll do great at Viterbo, too. Remember, wherever you go, it’s what you put into it that matters. Work hard, grab opportunities whenever they come, believe in yourself, and you’ll be fine anywhere.

mountainhiker, that is a great story to share!

nomester7, good luck with Webster, I hope you’ll hear good news soon!

Nomester…I love your attitude. You will be successful wherever you end up. I think a lot of kids get hung up on going to the “best” school when really they should be finding the school that is right for them. In a way it makes the decision easier if you don’t get too many acceptances. The ones that pick you really want you and know you will be a good fit. Good luck to all of you as we enter the last week or so. May you all end up where you are meant to be.

By the way, Rutgers did the same thing in my sons audition telling him he was just what they were looking for. Not even a callback…

One thing i like about this group is that no one else in our little corner of the world understands what it means to get into a school like Rutgers, Purchase, Pace, DePaul etc. And theres no way to convey it without sounding super braggy. So at least we can share real sincere congrats and condolences here! …meanwhile we’re waiting to hear from 7 schools! And another day with no news - such limbo! I know we applied to too many schools, but I don’t think we can make any visiting plans at all until we hear back. Maybe tomorrow?

We’ll be hearing from Depaul in the upcoming days! Break legs everyone :)

Thanks for the comfort everyone! Love you all!

I hear ya Bromquest. Just the other day someone was asking me what schools My S was applying to/hoping to be accepted to, I started to say some of them and then realized they won’t really recognize any except CMU so said that one. Then it was like, I was bragging or something… also, seemed like she thought I was saying we had the $ to pay for such an expensive private school. I thought about trying to explain but realized it was no use… I didn’t understand it before we entered this world either. Funny thing… .we are on the other end of the spectrum and I think S applied to too few schools! The next few days should give us the rest of the acceptance info. Ready set…

I called my brother, who lives in Mi. to tell him about son’s acceptance to Otterbein, which to us was as likely as winning Mega Millions. My brother said, “Oh, it’s near Columbus?” and I said, Oh good, you’ve heard of it, and he said “No, you told me about the school the last time you called”. He is all over Coastal Carolina because he is a college basketball fan
