Sharing, Venting, Supporting Class of 2018

Check with the CFPB (consumer financial protection bureau). They have a big customer service section and will find out the answer to any question. The head of the student loan section is the best guy at the entire agency.

ctl987, I’ve actually found FAFSA very helpful. Is it possible you just had an uninformed person on the line? Maybe if you called again you’d get someone more knowledgable who could help you. Since you’re worried this is a federal loan policy, the best people to call are the federal loan people themselves. If the person you are speaking with is uninformed, you could ask to speak to someone higher up. You need to know this answer. Good luck.

A dear friend in the business posted this on her FB page…thought it was a great read and very helpful.

This is a wonderful post, bisouu. Thank you for sharing it.

That’s a great piece, and I’m definitely going to share it with the actor in the family.

Echoing connections and jkellyn–this is really good. Thanks, bisouu!

Can’t believe how calm the boards are…

It’s all the end of year stuff. My D graduates on Sunday- getting everything ready for family to come in, attending senior events, AND my pesky little job (kids are taking a final in my class as I type) is taking about 27 hours a day!!

My D has pneumonia! We missed the dress rehearsal for her final dance recital last night and I am hoping that she is well enough for the big day on Saturday.

Oh no, dramamom0804! How is she feeling now? Wishing a speedy and full recovery.

Oh gosh, hope she’s better soon!

So sorry! My son’s been sick too. With so many “lasts” going on its a terrible time to be sick. Hope she feels better and makes the recital!

D is home after a hectic but wonderful last few weeks of school, culminating with Festival (a 3-day long celebration of graduating seniors and PGs, with recitals, concerts, performances, showcases, screenings and readings from all the different arts majors at the Academy), Honors Convocation (where she received a Young Artists award for outstanding theatre student) and finally, Commencement.

You can see her smiling face at the 3 min. mark in this video:

Can’t believe one journey is over, and an exciting new one is just beginning! Hugs to all you parents out there, feeling the same crazy swirl of emotions!

mountainhiker, what a wonderfully accomplished group of kids! Thank you for sharing that! Best of luck to all of them.

That is a phenomenal video, mountainhiker! I just love it. Not only is it an impressive list of schools, but I just love how grounded and ‘real’ these kids are. They clearly feel safe and look fully comfortable in themselves. Kudos to your daughter and her classmates.

She is getting better thanks and I think the recital tomorrow is a go…

So glad she is getting better! Break a leg tomorrow!

glad your daughter is getting better dramamom!

Interesting article about not waiting for that big break and creating your own path…

Lately the big thing is to ‘create your own work,’ and it sounds great. Everyone seems to be saying it. But what I never see is how. Like, this article talks about producing your own play–but how do you ‘produce’ a play with no money? How do you live? If you’re working a full time job, how do you network and find the time to also ‘create your own work’? How do you know producers to call? Are all the people who create their own work wealthy or at least with the knowledge that they have back up money from their parents in case of dry spells? Or are they people who are semi-established and have ties, and then can go from there while mixing other work?

I’d appreciate hearing from those who have done this. I know Soozie’s D has created her own work, often to huge praise. But she is unusually multi-talented. What about people who are focused entirely on acting as opposed to also writing music and so on? Is it possible to survive?
