Sharing, Venting, Supporting Class of 2018

@toowonderful‌ , where is your daughter going?

Thanks toowonderful :). Jkelynh17, you are so right. We took a cruise over to the campus to pick up the packages I shipped, and everyone is so welcoming, I could see my guy change into a college student before my eyes. He is ready, and it is time for him to fly.

@kbsmom - NYU, our kiddos will be in the same city, but we “only” have to drive from Cleveland. Still, D is SO ready (with occasional flashes of pure terror) and it is going to be a BIG weekend!

@Jkellynh17, that’s what I’ve been trying to tell everyone. I am not sad because she is so freakin’ happy, and I’m so excited for her.

We launched my daughter on Thursday - wonderful experience and no tears. I was beaming like a newly crowned Miss America!

Exactly @sydsim, we took my S out to dinner the night of move-in and I swear, his feet were hardly touching the ground at all. Just floating. So happy.

The build up was painful, but no tears at move in, just kiss and hugs :). We aren’t leaving until after the parent orientation and to meet his roomie, but he is in his room and launched.

On the airplane right now about to land in Philly! Move in day tomorrow.

Hi @kbsmom. Mine son heading to Pace as well (Stage design and tech). He will be living in Maria’s Tower. What about your student?

Hi @Virginia718. Very cool! My daughter will be in the John Street dorm. (BFA Acting). We are driving out from Minneapolis MN and leaving early Thurs am. How about you?

I just have to share (brag)…after a grueling audition in front of 10 directors/stage managers and a 4 hour callback she was cast as the lead in Moliere’s Two Precious Maidens Ridiculed!!! She is off to a great start!

Yay,@bisouu!

That is so exciting! Congratulations to her!!!

What a great validation of her choice of college! So pleased for you both!

@bisouu. Wonderful!!! Where is your D going?

@bisouu congrats to you and D!! I feel very close to your story and am so thrilled for you both.

How is everyone doing without their kids? I am still struggling with missing her desperately. Keep saying it will get better with time but so far it’s just time slowing creeping along….

I just MIGHT have a count down till October break on my phone… but D is SO happy that I have no choice but to be happy for her- I just miss being with her :)

Me too, girls. I’m missing my son so much! He’s so happy, and he’s been really good and sweet about calling, but it’s so so hard. I also just found out that he can’t come home for Thanksgiving because of a crew assignment… It’s occurring to me more clearly lately that I’ve been foolishly supporting him in this career pursuit that will take him further and further away from me. I’m such a dummy. JK (but not really)

^ I agree with the further away sentiment. Success may mean being away in the summer too :(

My S stayed in Chicago last summer, so we have really only seen him twice and only for a few days since Christmas. I miss him all the time, though it does seem to ebb and flow in intensity. But it does help that he is happy and making progress and motivated. Skype helps too . Really though, if they can’t leave, we have not done our jobs.
