<p>firefly…I’m smiling at the idea that CC will need a sub forum for marriages for our kids. LOL I’m not ready to go there yet myself, but hey, if folks on CC stay around long enough…we’ll need the wedding forums, the grandbaby forums, the first job forums, etc.</p>

<p>She met her guy on our family reunion Christmas cruise (12 of us on my father’s side) Christmas 2005. He was the pianist in the ship’s band. It turns out that he and a friend were on our stingray excursion, and our family became memorable because WildChild (taker of all risks) was AFRAID to get in the water with the stingrays. He said something about “large, poisonous animals”). Well, the tour director had the whole group chant his name to lure him into the water. New Year’s Eve my daughter essentially picked Joe up after the band finished playing after midnight. Turns out he was a medical student in Houston, where she was in college (very close by). She didn’t expect to hear from him, but did as soon as she got back to Rice. They have been together ever since. He graduated from Loyola New Orleans with a music degree, but won the organic chem award and did all his pre-med courses. He earned money for college/med school by doing cruise gigs and gigs at high end restaurants and corporate functions. </p>
<p>The neatest thing was at her senior recital in March (vocal performance) he rushed the stage at the end (I thought he might propose) and sat at the piano. They did “If I Were a Bell” from Guys and Dolls as her encore. It brought the house down. She said, “It’s a good party trick.”</p>
<p>He took her out for a nice dinner last night and then afterwards took her to the Water Wall in Houston. He proposed there. She called us right away.</p>
<p>They are planning a June 2008 wedding. They need to work out something where the Bishop lets her go to seminary where he matches for a residency- probably DC or Chicago (outside chance Nashville). </p>
<p>WilChild has until Friday to decide whether to follow in the footsteps of his idol Tucker Max and bring fun to “where fun goes to die” (Chicago) or to stay at the way-too-social-Ivy. He seems to be rejecting UTenn (can’t quite get his head around leaving an Ivy for the Vols- I can easily get my head AND my wallet around it). He has some good thoughts on how to improve things for himself if he stays at Penn. Whether he can execute the plan is another matter. I think he has a lot of respect for his brother-in-law-to-be and regards him as “not nearly as strange as her other boyfriends were”.</p>
<p>ROTFL at the scene with WildChild and the stingrays, I can just picture how it was, too, how incredibly funny…</p>

<p>Awww. Wonderful news. I am just getting my head around my oldest leaving in 1 yr for college. Now, having trouble with the idea we could be dealing with a wedding in 5-6. Where does the time go? You’ll be a great MOB. And MIL!</p>
