MOWC…love the story!

Yes. Yes I do. :)

Yes, it is VERY nice when they call you to share good news. WildChild had a girlfriend at prep school junior/senior year. Not only was the girl forbidden to introduce herself to us, he had her MOTHER conned into not approaching us! I didn’t even know about her until the mother broke the vow of silence and sent me a nice Christmas letter senior year and asked me to call her! Boy, did he have THEM snowed! I finally met the girl at his graduation. He did used to call me from his races, though.

On the one hand ya got the daughter going to the seminary. On the other hand ya got the Wild Child. Interesting life ya got there, huh?

Love the engagement story. Love the finding a husband on a family cruise story. Looking forward to the wedding story:).

It’s what childrearing experts would call a “balanced life”. LOL.

MOWC - Congratulations to everybody. I enjoyed the story of their relationship, and love the recital story! I am grateful for the explanation of who he is, because when I first read this thread, and saw he was a medical student, I thought, “Wait a minute - I thought she was dating a musician!”

I have a feeling her wedding will be worth attending for the music alone! Are we invited?

Edit: And I hope the do the Bell song at the reception!

What fun! Congratulations all around. We love, love, LOVE links to bridal gowns, flowers, etc, especially those of us with daughters, who, if they ever get married, will likely wear the cleanest pair of pants and the nicest tee-shirt.

As Alumother said,

“Love the engagement story. Love the finding a husband on a family cruise story. Looking forward to the wedding story.”

I also love the recital story…Very romantic all around!!

Congrats MOWC…I can’t wait to see how this story unfolds (wedding preparations, WildChild’s antics, etc.)…Much better than any T.V. show!!!

I talked to my daughter today. She wants a formal Episcopal wedding (of course) at our church here in TN. She is going to ask her priest from Houston to come assist in the service. We will pay for his plane ticket if he can come. The groom will wear cowboy boots with his tux and the bridesmaids will have horseshoe jewelry. Reception will have a great country western band and bandanas etc for decorations instead of lots of flowers. I told WildChild he would be asked to be a groomsman and he looked at me like I was crazy. He didn’t say no, though. Maid of Honor is D’s roommate from high school at Interlochen. Bridesmaids are sister of the groom (college student) and D’s cousin (rising soph at Penn State). The MOG wants to come meet us before the wedding, so D is thinking Thanksgiving at our house. Fine with me, but I don’t actually cook, so everyone will have to pitch in. We have met the FOG (divorced)- he came to D’s recital in Houston. D nixed the idea of our Golden Retriever as ring bearer, but groom wants to train D’s cat, Jelly Bean, to do the job.

MoWC…joyous news. But sounds like you have much to celebrate in your daughter regardless and she has met a man who appreciates her. Imagine…how short the list of men who realize what a vocalist goes through. A music major doctor. Heaven! (my college roommate was a mezzo who ended up in the Chicago Symphony Chorus so I have a clue.)
Do fill us in on Wildchild and his incredible adventures should he want to go to Chicago and warm things up. Are you thinking the wind might slow down his metabolism or just exactly how did Chicago start to look interesting compared to Philly?
I know a great guitarist in Nashville…12 string, has many CDs etc. John Pell. I hired him before…and he is a great person. If you are like me, you might also run into Amy Grant in Krogers and you can get WC to ask her to sing with her hubby. Her dad is a Vandy doc.
Check him out
your former Nashvillian CC poster

Too much fun! Thanks for sharing all the info. IMO I think the retriever would be a better ring bearer, cat’s just don’t care about formality…

MoWC…many congratulations. Now you just tell WildChild that being in his sister’s wedding is a non-negotiable! My S was a groomsman at his cousin’s wedding last year (where does the time go? My YOUNGER sister is a GRANDMOTHER…) and he wouldn’t have done it if he had been given a choice. We simply told him it was part of belonging to a family. He looked fabulous in his tux, escorted his grandparents to their seats, and even managed not to look sullen in the pictures. All in all, a total success.

Chiming in with another CONGRATS! and best wishes to the happy couple!

Hey MOWC,
Many congrats! As the momof3sons I will never get to hear any “good” details :(so thanks for sharing! Your D has a great “how I met my husband story” to be told for decades to come. Pretty unusual. As for WC, if he decides to go “where fun goes to die,” my oldest will be starting a Ph.D program there this fall. If the stars align, in a couple of years he might be teaching a course that WC is interested in. Then we will have a case of WC being taught by CWWH. (Child with wild hair.) ;)

MOWC- Congrats! What a happy time in both of your lives… :)

My daughter wrote in Facebook:

To everyone who has sent Joe and me congratulatory wishes,

Thank you so much for all of your support. Joe and I are thrilled, and our parents are very excited also. It’s going to be a very big year for us with planning the wedding, his residency applications, and my discernment process. Not to mention me starting my new job! We know that we’ll be making a cross-country move next May, but we won’t know where until Match Day in March. We’re looking at Chicago, D.C., and Nashville as front-runners.

The Proposal
Joe and I both got dressed up Tuesday night (he even wore the same shirt and tie he was wearing when we met) and went out to dinner at Damian’s Cucina Italiana in midtown. We had a wonderful dinner with a bottle of Tuscan sangiovese, spinach gnocchi, salads, stuffed veal chop, veal piccata, cannoli, and tiramisu. Then he drove me to the water wall in the Galleria area, and we sat on a bench in the park and talked for a while. Then he got down on one knee and asked, “_______, will you marry me?” I said yes, of course!

The Ring
The diamond was my great-grandmother’s and was probably cut with a Singer sewing machine in the late 19th century. It’s a cut that jewelers don’t even do anymore. It’s a round stone. Joe and I worked together to pick out a setting that both of us loved and that represented who we are as a couple. We chose a semi-bezel setting in 14K white gold. These pictures don’t do justice at all to how much the ring sparkles. As an engagement present, I gave Joe a life-size replica of Brancusi’s The Kiss.

The Wedding
We’re looking at a June 2008 wedding in Franklin, Tennessee where my parents live. The ceremony will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in downtown Franklin. It’s the mother church of the diocese of Tennessee and has beautiful stained glass windows. The reception will have a slight country twist with BBQ and a live country band.

Congrats, MOWC. Thanks for sharing all those fun details. As a MOSs, I stare wi****lly into the future…maybe someday.

Daughter has set up a cool wedding website. Boy- the technology available today is awesome. PM me if you want the link.

WildChild is staying put and has a plan to create for himself at his way-too-social Ivy the superior education he feels everyone gets at the “where fun goes to die” school. We’ll see if he can execute it without any detours. At least I don’t have to scrape another bumper sticker off the car- did enough of that while he was at his various high schools!

Damian’s and the Water Wall? Very romantic!

Congratulations, we can just feel your excitement. May your D and FSIL have a long and happy life together. I can’t wait to follow all the details of the planning process. Enjoy every moment.
