Shipping Methods

I ordered something from Amazon using Prime on January 3. According to Amazon’s website, it was shipped on the 4th via Fed Ex. Fed Ex tracking says it left Belleville, MI on Feb 6 heading for Rochester, MI and is “in transit”. Well, it could have walked here from there by now.

I ordered three other shipments from Amazon Prime days later. They are all here. Some used USPS and some used UPS. I realize that Michigan has been in a deep freeze all week but every other carrier managed to get things here on time.

Do you guys experience the same thing? Which carriers do you find to be the best or worst?

Call Amazon. When I called them they overnighted a no cost replacement right away. It got here the next day. The original never did show up.

I run my own business and we rely on both FEDEX and UPS. I make around 30-40 shipments a day. In the last 10 days I have received “delayed” shipment notices for virtually all of my shipments to and from the Midwest. Do not judge a shipping company on the last two weeks of weather. It’s been a real mess for all the shipping companies.

Northern half of Indiana had a do-not-travel warning Mon, Tues, and parts of Wed. I know our local UPS was not driving Monday and Tuesday.

Re: UPS. I love UPS. I can’t stand how Amazon is now using UPS-Surepost. All my packages get to my local UPS center (40 minutes) as quickly as usual. With regular UPS, they would be delivered that day. Nope…now, they go from that Post office to my post office. Then they sit all day. Then the next day my carrier leaves a slip in my box (she won’t deliver boxes or get out of her car). Then I have to drive 25 miles round trip to the post office the next day. PITA. Adds THREE days to shipment. :(

Call 1-800-ASK-USPS and file a complaint about your local carrier not delivering. I had to do this years ago, and it actually worked. (I’d first tried through the local postmaster and was never even able to get that mythic person on the phone; he was always “unavailable”.)

Thanks Singersmom. I did complain and Amazon is sending a new package.

Musicamusica: I would excuse FedEx because of the weather, but it’s been sitting 30 minutes away for five days. Everybody else delivered yesterday and today. They can’t even tell me where it is except “in transit” which is impossible. If it really is “in transit” it’s in a ditch by the side of the road. They could have delivered it on foot by now.

Sryrstress: Yes. FedEx blamed it on Sureport also. But the post office has been here twice since then and no package.

Amazon was very helpful and told me they appreciated my feedback on FedEx. Maybe if you keep complaining about Surepost they will stop using it.

3bm103

It’s lost. If they can’t find it in the distribution center in your area it’s not there and they will never ever find it.

Someplace in Massachusetts there are some very nice wire dog sculptures that are still in-transit several years later. Since they are sculptures and not actual dogs, they will probably never come home. The supplier replaced them!

I’ve had things lost and held up “indefinitely” by the USPS, Fedex, and UPS in the last four weeks. One of the UPS packages went out the same day from the same facility on the same initial truck but got waylayed nonetheless and will arrive ten days after the other packages. With this weather and the continued holiday season (returned gifts wreak havoc the first week of January) it’s generally the luck of the draw.Just saying.

Fed ex also coordinates with usps.
When my postal carrier was not delivering things to my house, because of the dog, I also had things shipped by fed ex smart post returned, because usps was delivering it the last bit.
This of course was the month or so before xmas & I didn’t know what was going on.
At times amazon prime uses on trac who has had problems in our area, somethings never showing up, others weeks after the two- day shipping.
(& you cant track * on trac*.)

I also noticed that while ups puts my packages off to the side, hidden from the street on the porch, fed ex just leaves them literally at the door, in plain sight.

Opinions, I got 'em!
( but would I go back to buying most stuff by schlepping through malls and big box stores? Yeah right. ;))

Another interesting note is that my son ordered a coffee pot from Amazon Prime. When he tried to have it delivered to his home it said it would be delivered Thursday. When he put the office, it said Tuesday. He tried my home and it also said Tuesday. Only his house took two extra days and it is situated between my home and the office.

I ordered an item via Amazon Prime on Jan. 4; supposed to be delivered by 8 pm on Jan. 8. Status continually showed to be shipped until I live chatted last night. Got it tonight via UPS. It was already “out for delivery” when I first checked today; I think it went straight from the closest Amazon distribution center to UPS. However, all day today on Amazon the status showed expected delivery by 8 pm - on Jan. 6!

I understood all the transportation issues (I think the distribution center is in Indiana to avoid Illinois sales tax); it was the status info that annoyed me.

We haven’t had any issues with USPS delivering UPS stuff but we do live in a major distribution core. And our town is so safe that it made the local paper when a couple of packages were stolen off porches last year.

“I also noticed that while ups puts my packages off to the side, hidden from the street on the porch, fed ex just leaves them literally at the door, in plain sight.”

EK, this must be the local FedEx’s modus operandi! My UPS packages are always neatly stashed behind the planter on the porch. The FedEx dude… just throws them on the ground by the bottom step, rain or shine.

I have had excellent luck up until mid-December when I really, really needed something for a trip I was taking in 4 days. Paid extra for the 2 day shipping and the tracking info showed it that it was shipped in just hours but was coming USPS! Four days and several “chat” sessions later we found one in a local store.

It showed up on the 5th day. They removed the charge and I sent it back when I returned by I was NOT happy!!!

USPS…really???

I wish websites were much more transparent regarding their shipping methods. Sometimes it’s very difficult to find and/or says something vague. Tell me what CARRIER you are using because it would definitely make a difference whether and/or from whom I made the purchase. USPS or Sure-post, are you listening?
