Shoe lovers - FYI: Zappos

Could be the end of the Zappos as we know it:

[Amazon to buy shoe site Zappos for almost $900 million](http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2009519032_webamazon22.html)

I’m not thrilled about this.

Oops, sorry, this was meant for the Cafe.

I hope they won’t change anything. Zappos is the only online shopping setup that I like even better than Amazon.

OH NO! Zappos is awesome. Please don’t let Amazon screw it up.

if they change zappos… oooooooooooooh i will be mad!

Noooooooooooooooooo.

Our world is indeed a-changin’!

NO NO NO. I like Zappo’s just the way it is. Amazon is good, but not as good as Zappo’s.

Free shipping both ways! I bet Amazon puts an end to that.

I have been a happy occasional shopper at both Zappos and endless.com, an arm of Amazon. Endless offers free overnight shipping and free return shipping as well. I think Zappos discontinued the free “overnight” shipping on some/all shoes a while ago, though I may be mistaken.

I hope this consolidation doesn’t result in the end of endless’s overnight shipping, though I suspect it will. Fortunately, I placed an order for my son (water sandals) Monday and received them yesterday. Once when the weather was horrible I even placed an order with endless for snow boots and received them the next day in the midst of a rotten snow storm.

My friend was involved in the launch of endless, and I’d predict that the free return shipping will remain since on-line shoe retailers realize that fit is a crucial issue. At least I hope so.

I have checked out Zappos and our outlet mall stores have way better deals though not the selection. The only running shoe I wear is New Balance and I can usually get them at about 2/3rds the price.

During pregnancy my feet spread and stayed that way, leaving me a D width. But for Zappos, I would not own shoes. (Seriously, Nordstrom doesn’t even have shoes to fit me.) If they do away with free return shipping it will be a serious issue. For banquets each year, D has ordered 8-12 pairs of shoes, tried them all one, kept one and returned them all the next day.

One of the crucial skills WildChild learned at his law firm job was how to order multiple pairs of shoes and ship back the ones he didn’t want. He had to perform this service for his female boss. He said she would order 8 pairs at a time from Nordstrom! Not a bad lesson to learn!

I follow the Zappos CEO on twitter. Here is a recent post from him with a link to his blog:
Big day! Email I just sent to Zappos employees today about the Amazon acquisition - [CEO Letter | Zappos.com](<a href=“Shoes, Sneakers, Boots, & Clothing + FREE SHIPPING | Zappos.com”>Shoes, Sneakers, Boots, & Clothing + FREE SHIPPING | Zappos.com)

Okay. I just tweeted @zappos a link to this thread. Your voices will be heard!
Keep what works please Tony. I deal with Amazon a lot in my business and their customer service is a misnomer!

I love Zappos, and would be disappointed to see it change. I hope it doesn’t.

I agree with Originaloog that Zappos prices are not the lowest. If there is a shoe I know I want, and I already know the right size, I won’t buy it at Zappos. But if I’m not sure, and need to try on a number of shoes, Zappos is the best. There are not many good shoe stores near me, and the selection at Zappos is great – and being able to read all the comments people make on shoes is very helpful. I’ll order a bunch of shoes, then return all the ones I don’t want. I’m willing to pay the extra money for that service.

NOOOOOO! Why Amazon, why?

Well I love Zappos AND Amazon, and this should simplify my life greatly! I LOVE the selection at Zappos, and while you might find the shoes cheaper elswhere, I assume this is why they can offer the “free” shipping options. Nordtrom is pretty good, but the closest one to me is almost an hour a way. Not a good use of my time/gas, to go see if they have the size and color I’m looking for.

With free return shipping and 365 days to return, not to mention the ease of printing out the return documents, Zappos could teach Amazon a thing or two about customer service.

GASP… no!

id say amazon has better CS than zappos so it seems good.

The only thing I dislike about Zappos is that you can only return shoes in new condition. If you have worn them, they wont take em back. The very reason why I choose to buy from various New Balance dealers, if I buy and don’t like em they will still always take em back.
