I just purchased a lovely navy dress to wear to a fall wedding. In the old days you wouldn’t mix navy and black, but I think that is no longer true. Should I get silver sandals and a silver clutch to complete the outfit? What do the fashionistas think?

I wear black and blue all the time.
I wear black and blue, and I also love silver with navy, but I actually wear so much blue that at some point I found great navy pumps and a navy clutch, too. I guess I’d base the choice on time of day - or on whatever wonderful shoes you come across.
I think navy shoes or the ones everyone wears now that are a neutral tan that seem to go with everything. I would not wear black shoes and I think picking silver could age you. JMHO.
Taupe shoes and bag can also look nice with navy, but are more daytime.
I immediate “saw” silver with the navy.
I have done black for low key but silver for fun cocktails. I have also done navy but found it harder to find shoes.
I think black looks more formal, classy. I guess it depends on the setting for the wedding. I personally would never wear silver. Meaning I would never wear silver shoes with anything! Not my style.

Depending how formal the dress (and event) is, I’d try to find a fun shoe - navy with a polka dot bow or some kind of design.
Or silver.
Chunky shoes are “in.” 
I’d wear black strappy sandals but I also like the idea of a nude shoe. BFF thinks pumps are dressier than strappy sandals but I’m not sure I agree…
There is silver and then there is silver - think polished chrome v. satin nickel. I like my silver to be like the latter.

Somehow the idea of wearing a $600 pair of shoes with a $60 dress amuses me. I do like them though I could never wear them.
Black patent may be an option.

D has a pair of shoes like the nina genaya and she says they are very comfortable. She bought it for a wedding and has worn it several times. It does NOT look dated or old and several of the young ladies wore strappy silver shoes like hers.
